The old proven laxative "Purgen" (tablets): indications and side effects

Practically every person faced with such a phenomenon as constipation. Dense fecal masses in the intestine deliver a lot of unpleasant moments: pain, heaviness in the abdomen, nausea. At the first manifestations of constipation, most people try to eliminate this problem as soon as possible and take a shock dose of a strong laxative without even thinking about the consequences and negative processes that are taking place in the body at that moment.

Most modern medicines designed to normalize the functional activity of the intestine are based only on retaining moisture. Therefore, prolonged and uncontrolled use of laxative drugs can lead to dehydration of the body and only aggravate the situation. In addition to this, a person receives less nutrients and trace elements. That's why patients with chronic constipation should undergo examination, rather than self-medicate and not exacerbate the problem.

An old proven tool

Today, doctors do not prescribe "Purgen" (tablets) to treat constipation, saying that the drug has a negative effect on the liver and kidneys. Since ancient times, he was considered an effective laxative drug that helped cope with chronic constipation. In Russia it was previously produced in tablets of 50, 100 mg (today it is banned for sale). The main active substance is phenolphthalein (a substance used in chemistry), we will talk about its properties today.

pharmachologic effect

The laxative "Purgen" (pills) acted on the muscle tissue and nerve endings of the intestinal walls, thereby strengthening its peristalsis. The drug dissolved in the intestinal tract and caused a deviation in the absorption of the liquid, this caused the action of the medicine, which could last for a day.

Who was shown the "Purgen"?

Tablets were previously prescribed for therapeutic purposes in the chronic and acute stage of the disease (constipation). The daily dosage should not exceed 300 mg. To avoid getting used to it, doctors did not recommend to use it for a long time. During the administration of the drug "Purgen" (tablets), the patients observed a change in the color of urine due to an alkaline reaction. This phenomenon was considered the norm - after the passed course the situation was restored.

Side effects and contraindications

Precautions were prescribed to elderly people. In the event of a negative reaction, it was advised to take activated charcoal and stop using the medicine "Purgen" (pills). The price of laxative funds did not exceed one hundred rubles. Before self-therapy, doctors urged to talk to a specialist.

In rare cases, the drug could provoke arrhythmia, dermatitis, skin rashes, enteritis, collapse, albuminuria and hypokalemia. He was forbidden to people with kidney failure and individual intolerance. The following drugs were analogues of this medicine: "Laxoin", "Laxatol", "Purgil", "Fenaloin".

Doctors today do not prescribe the remedy "Purgen" (its price was low), since it has not been released for a long time, since it causes serious complications: epilepsy, nervous diseases and even malignant liver and kidneys. It is for this reason that in 2002 many countries of the world withdrew it from the sale. If there is a choice, then give preference to plant extracts based on walnuts or senna.
