At its core, the horror film "Mist" is a free adaptation by director Frank Darabont of the story of the distinguished Stephen King. Everyone knows that the writer, almost every creature and creativity, stressed the fact that the main monsters in his works are people. So the story "Fog" makes a special emphasis on the relationship of the main characters, and not bloodthirsty monsters. Nevertheless, he was not categorical against the fact that F. Darabont preferred to change the ending of the original, making it more gloomy in the film. This liberty has caused a real resonance: the scale of the tragedy can be fully appreciated, if it's not too lazy to compare the original (the book) and the film "Mist" - the responses will be very controversial. Most cinephiles, going to see the film, expected to see a kind of survival horror, but saw something different.

The main action of the picture takes place in a confined, enclosed space where a fairly diverse company was seized by the will - everyone is scared to death and does not see a way out of the situation. Traditionally, there is a leader among the company, often a real madman, who in religious events will always find a religious background. The film "The Mist", whose reviews are very contradictory, brings to the fore the effect of fear on people in an extreme situation, when horror turns decent citizens into animals, and this is much worse than the threat posed by the arrived alien monster. However, even among the distraught characters, there are individual heroes who have a rational mind and who have not lost the spark of hope for salvation irrevocably, so they are trying to act. As for the film's atmosphere, it is a cocktail of fear of an unknown and utter despair. Here, too, the mysterious fog played an important role in forcing a general atmosphere: the heart stops in a throbbing foreboding, when the white veil inexorably covers the whole city and carries with it fear and death. But the final picture is simply shocking. Preliminarily reading in the media article "" Mist "- reviews of film critics", many people could not think that this will all end. Personally, the final scene when I viewed it put me in a depressed state, for a long time no film has ever shocked me so much. The final episode sounded in unison with the musical composition Dead Can Dance and as if turned inside out. In the novel, King's ending is open and offers the reader to independently comprehend the fate of the main characters, but the creators of the painting went the opposite way, placing fat points over the "i". Many films, especially psychological thrillers, after watching leave a different feeling, but not this one. And it's useless to read the opuses on the topic "Mist" - the feedback will not convey how emotionally devastated this picture is, and, leaving nothing inside, just plunges into shock. There is no malice, no sadness, no pity, nothing, just a dumb question: "Why? .."
