Rock Club (St. Petersburg): history of creation, activity, new life. Club "Mani-Hani"

The Leningrad rock club was opened at the end of the 20th century. His activities were mainly aimed at organizing concerts. A few years ago the rock club was reborn.

About the club

The Leningrad Rock Club was established in 1981. It was a concert organization. Rock club was not quite typical for this kind of organization. Rather, it was a mixture of the Union of Composers and the House of Culture. It had its own membership system, charter and music council. The President was Nikolai Mikhailov. Members of the club were many rock bands, which became famous. Some of them have been working successfully to this day. After this rock club began to create and other similar organizations. Initially, it was located at: Rubinshteina Street, 13 (St. Petersburg). Rock Club in 2012 changed its habitat. Now he is on the street Flower, in the house number 6.

History of the club

Attempts to create a rock club (St. Petersburg was one of the pioneers in this direction) were made back in the 70s of the 20th century. He was needed in order to legalize the concert activity of musicians of this direction. Initially, the club included ten rock bands. In 1981 the club was legalized. He was based in the Inter-Union House of amateur creativity. In the same year the first big concert of the Leningrad rockers was held. Nikolai Mikhailov headed the organization in 1982.

Soon the most prominent members of the club were expelled from the Komsomol. The activities of the rockers were supervised by the KGB, since, according to the authorities, originality and dissent could lead to espionage or dissidence. The staff of the State Security Committee attended every concert of the club and watched what was happening there, revealing potentially dangerous musicians, in their opinion.

Activities of the club

In addition to organizing concerts, the rock club (St. Petersburg) also held various festivals. The first was held in 1983. Thanks to these festivals, the audience learned about such groups as Kino, Alisa, Chaif, DDT, Civic Defense, etc. In the early 1990s, The rock club held two major events. But when the USSR collapsed, such organizations began to be gradually closed. In their place came nightclubs and discos.

In the early 90's, the Leningrad Rock Club still occasionally held concerts. Then it opened a bar, and then - a music store. And by the beginning of the new century, activity here has completely come to naught.

What bands were in the rock club? St. Petersburg has become a launching pad for many. These are the following groups and performers:

XXI Century

In 2008, the rock club (St. Petersburg) attempted a revival. Its former members were invited to a meeting in the Palace of Culture on the Obvodny Canal. The meeting was organized by Andrey Antonov. He heads the production center "Music of the XXI Century" and is the administrator of the Tsurupy Cultural Center. On the agenda was the revival of the legendary rock club. Present at the meeting and the former president of the organization of rockers - Nikolai Mikhailov. The meeting did not lead to anything.

The second attempt at revival was made in 2010. Then it was planned to hold a concert. He had to go in another, no less famous rock club called Money-Honey. But this initiative was also unsuccessful.

A revival took place in 2012. The Rock Club settled in a building along Flower Street.

«Mani-Hani»

Another Leningrad rock club, which was opened in 1994, is "Mani-Khani". It exists until now. The club is located at Sadovaya Street, house number 28/30, building 13, next to the metro station "Gostiny Dvor".

"Mani-Hani" every evening invites spectators to rock concerts, promotions, theme parties and discos until the morning. The bar can be tasty and inexpensive to eat and drink. On weekdays the entrance to the cult club is free. Here you can tear yourself away, bring your friends or meet new interesting people.

The first floor is decorated in a cowboy style. On the walls hang guitars and pistols. The furniture here is comfortable and wooden. The ceiling is decorated with lamps in the form of wheels from the cart. On the second floor there is a concert hall, which opened recently. It is decorated differently, more modern, but no less stylish than the first floor. The concert hall is designed for 250 people. Here there are fashionable DJs, rock, electro and hard bands.
