The drug "Warfarin" instruction for use refers to the category of anticoagulants of indirect effects. The drug is able to suppress the synthesis of clotting factors (K-vitamin dependent), as well as proteins S and C in the liver. The optimal anticoagulant effect is observed on the third or fifth day after the initiation of therapy and ceases after three to five days from the date of the last dose. The drug is available in tablet form.

It is recommended that when taking medication "Warfarin" a diet that maintains approximately the same amount in the diet of vitamin K.

Indications

The drug is prescribed for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolism and thrombosis of blood vessels. The indications for the drug "Warfarin" instructions for use include thromboembolism and acute venous thrombosis of the pulmonary artery, the recurrence of myocardial infarction, postoperative thrombosis. The drug is not administered during pregnancy.

The most common adverse manifestation when taking "Warfarin" is bleeding. In rare cases, necrosis of the skin, increased hepatic enzymes, diarrhea, eczema, hair loss, vasculitis.

Dosage

The drug is indicated for oral administration. Recommended single application, at the same time. The initial dosage is from two and a half to five milligrams a day.

The subsequent scheme of taking the drug "Warfarin" (INR or prothrombin time in this case is taken into account) is determined individually. In two to four times the initial time should be increased prothrombin time. At the same time, the INR (international normalized ratio) should reach (depending on the pathology, the probability of bleeding, the risk of thrombosis) 2.2-4.4.

For elderly patients or in a weakened state, low doses of the drug "Warfarin" are prescribed.

Before the approaching operation (in case of predisposition to the development of thromboembolic complications), therapy begins two to three days before the intervention.

In acute thrombosis treatment is carried out in combination with the drug "Heparin" until the anticoagulant effect is fully manifested (usually not earlier than the third or fifth day).

The duration of therapy depends on the patient's condition.
