Stadium "Zenith" (Volgograd) - home arena "Rotor"

Each city has its own history, including sports history. Large cities with a population of more than a million people usually have several sports facilities for the development of not only professional but also amateur sports. Not an exception is the city-hero Volgograd, which has a wonderful history, both civil and sports.

The history of the stadium "Zenith" in Volgograd

Stadium "Zenith" (Volgograd) is the oldest sports facility not only in the region, but also in the whole country. This stadium was built in the city in the summer of 1927. Soon this building will celebrate its ninetieth anniversary. For a long time the complex was central in the city until in the mid-sixties the home arena for the Volgograd Rotor was built - the Central stadium. And even after that, "Zenith" was not empty - it regularly hosted competitions, district, city and even international scale. And in 2013 the qualifying match of the European Football Championship among young men was played. With the beginning of the reconstruction of the central stadium of Volgograd, the importance of the stadium "Zenith" for the city has increased significantly. Preparing for the World Cup in 2018

Due to the fact that Russia was given the right to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018, cities were chosen in which matches of this mundialya will be held. Among the cities that have won this right, is Volgograd. For the upcoming championship in the city it was decided to build a new stadium. To implement these plans, the stadium "Central" was demolished for about half a century residents of the city and football clubs who played in this arena. At this place the newest stadium "Volgograd Arena" will be built, which will host matches of the World Cup group tournament. But the stadium "Zenith" (Volgograd) also will not stay aloof from this holiday of football. It is currently carrying out reconstruction work, and the stadium will be a training base for one of the teams that will be based on the time of the group tournament in Volgograd.

Sports complex "Zenith"

Among other things, the stadium "Zenith" (Volgograd) is part of the eponymous sports complex. After the appropriate reconstruction and construction of additional sports facilities, it has become a modern urban sports development center on an amateurish and professional level. What is included in this complex? The basis of the sports center are two football fields. One of them is intended for football matches and has stands for spectators, and the other is for the training process. Also around the playing field are eight track and field tracks, allowing to conduct a variety of competitions of different levels.

In addition, the sports complex "Zenith" includes tennis courts, a swimming pool, and in podtribunnyh rooms are rooms for various sports. The view of one of these halls is presented in the photo.

The use of the stadium by the football club Rotor (Volgograd)

After the central stadium of the city began preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, FC Rotor (Volgograd) began to need a home arena for matches of the Russian championship.

Stadium "Zenith" readily fulfilled this function. Of course, the stands of this stadium are not as capacious as it was on the "Central", nevertheless the team "Rotor" was given a beautiful football field with an excellent grass lawn. Thanks to this "Rotor" all conditions are provided so that he can rise like a phoenix from the ashes.
