Stable area and its interesting history

Sankt-Peterburg is a well of places of interest and interesting historical places. Probably, nowhere in the world is there so many buildings, squares, streets, having an unimaginably rich history.

That's Konyushennaya Square does not lag behind the whole city and can tell about its history. Given that all people at that time went on horseback to visit and serve, and even at the royal court there were many horses, there was a need for a place to find them. In 1723 it was built by the then famous architect Peter N.F. Gerbelom building for the court stables. The area on the left bank of the Moika River, where the court departures were going to, was called Konyushennaya.

And the streets that came out on this square, respectively, had the names of Big and Little Konyushennaya. Later here, small buildings began to appear for servants and employees, barns for horse feed, forges for making horseshoes, bridles and other items needed for stables. The Court-Stables department was created, which is responsible for this territory. And in a few years there was a need for a new building for a stable yard, which was erected in an unusual form - in the form of a square. Here are located the offices of the crew committee and the court stables, coach sheds and living quarters for employees and officials. And in the center is the Church of the Savior of the Holy Face, which was also later called Konyushennaya, where after the duel the famous poet Alexander Pushkin was singing in 1837.

This building, which is located between Konyushennaya Ploshchad and the Swedish lane, Malaya and Bolshaya Konyushennymi streets, has survived to this day, and it also houses a transport agency.

Nonstandard elongated shape, the square attracts tourists and townspeople with its museum located at Konyushennaya Ploshchad, 2, where there are rather unusual exhibits, such as the double wagon made by Peter I's hands, the remains of the carriage that was blown up in 1881 (the first of March) Alexander II before the assassination, stuffed horse horses. During the revolution the museum was closed. Some of the exhibits have disappeared, some are now in the Hermitage, others are in Tsarskoye Selo, and in the building of the museum of the court crew at Konyushennaya square, 2, there are restaurants and clubs.

St. Petersburg is famous for its unique buildings, unlike each other. Many architects took part in their creation. So on Konyushennaya Square the plans of NF were embodied. Gerbel - a well-known architect, later (in a hundred years) in the reconstruction of the stable yard took part. Stasov, the building of the Stables Museum was erected according to the project of P.S. Sadovnikova.

In our time it is planned to reconstruct it. Konyushennaya square is transformed into a center for rest of townspeople and tourists with bicycle paths in summer and ice rinks in winter, for outdoor activities, a cafe with summer verandas, an alley with coniferous evergreen trees for those who want to relax quietly, breathe fresh air, admiring the beauty of the museum-city.
