St. Vvedensky Cathedral (Karaganda): description and history

The consecration of the place for the construction of the Holy Vvedensky Cathedral was held in 1991. Then the first stone was laid. In July 1995, Patriarch Alexy II visited Karaganda and held a service in the cathedral. This was the first service in the temple, at that time the walls were still covered with plaster and there were scaffolding under the dome of the cathedral. The construction of the cathedral was conducted from 1991 to 2000, in which the illumination of the church took place.

Architecture

The Holy Vvedensky Cathedral (Karaganda) resembles Noah's Ark in its form. This is the idea of the architect Sergeyev VG In 1994, at the competition among the CIS countries "Best Temple Project" in Minsk, the Vvedensky Cathedral took first place. In December 2008, the painting of the temple, which took 3 years, was completed. The total area of the mural is almost 1.5 hectares. Only the altar left almost a year.

The project provided for 183 images of saints and angels above human growth. The temple was designed by the local artist - Alexander Pratsyura. Guests who visited St. Vvedensky Cathedral (Karaganda) say that there is no such painting anywhere else. The artist, despite the generally accepted canons of the image of the saints, approached the design creatively. Before starting work, he visited more than 30 churches, studying the painting.

Considering the illumination of the temple, the height of the dome, the harmony of the iconostasis, he brought in some fragments of the painting interesting color solutions. Interior decoration is simply mesmerizing. They are very proud of the parishioners, satisfied with the work of the master. The first thing that glances inside the temple is a wooden three-level iconostasis. Works on the creation of the iconostasis lasted 3 years - from 1996 to 1999. It was performed by local craftsmen - woodcarvers.

The Holy Vvedensky Cathedral (Karaganda) has three altars: in the name of the Most Holy Theotokos, in the name of the holy Roman unchallenged Lochma and Damian, in the name of the Reverend Father Sebastian of Karaganda. The relics of the latter were moved to the cathedral in May 1998 from the Christmas temple of Karaganda, where the monk served 11 years.
