Spondylosis of the spine - causes, symptoms, treatment

Spine spine is a disease that arises from the degenerative changes of individual vertebrae and intervertebral discs, resulting in the formation of osteophytes, and the narrowing of the spinal canal, as well as the intervertebral openings. Osteophytes (bony outgrowths) over time can expand and reach the sizes that cause the fusion of the bodies of adjacent vertebrae. In addition, osteophytes are able to irritate the nerves that are coming along by a sharp edge, causing corresponding symptoms.

Spondylarthrosis of the thoracic spine is similar in its symptoms to spondylosis, mainly because both of these diseases are a consequence of degenerative vertebral disease.

Causes of spondylosis

Spondylosis of the spine can develop due to a variety of reasons, among which:

  • Injury of the spine. Any damage to the vertebrae, even the presence of microcracks, can fuse along a perverted path, thereby forming unnecessary bony outgrowth, which is one of the negative consequences of such a disease as spinal spondylosis.
  • Osteochondrosis of the cervical vertebrae. Due to osteochondrosis, the height of the intervertebral discs decreases, and the pressure on the articular surfaces significantly increases.
  • Metabolism violation. Violation of metabolic processes is quite often the cause of spondylosis, which is especially noticeable in older people.
  • Deformation of the spine . Uneven load on the spinal column caused by a sedentary lifestyle is often the cause of scoliosis and flat feet, which, in turn, can provoke a disease such as spinal spondylosis.
  • Severe physical exertion. The long and heavy physical activities that are peculiar to people professionally engaged in weightlifting or other sports can lead to irreversible consequences for the spinal column.
  • Age-related changes. According to statistical data, the age of more than 30% of all patients with spinal cord spine is over 40 years old.
  • Subcooling. General supercooling of the body or local reaction to cold in the area affected by the spinal column can disrupt the innervation of the vertebrae and adjacent vessels and ligaments.

Symptoms of spondylosis

  • Aching in the back, which worsen when walking or after a long standing on the legs.
  • Limitation of mobility in areas of affected parts of the spinal column.
  • Disturbance of gait due to uneven distribution of the load on the spinal column, lethargy and weakness in the legs.
  • Feeling of discomfort in the affected area with possible awakenings at night.
  • Reduction of pain when the torso is tilted forward (with lumbar spondylosis).

Treatment of spondylosis

  • Painkillers, NSAIDs. During the pain syndrome, single injections, as well as analgesic blockade with novocaine or ketonal, are possible. It is necessary to understand that taking pain medications can only alleviate, but not cure the disease in any way.
  • Massage. Therapeutic massage can both relieve the pain syndrome, and help in the treatment of the disease.
  • Electrophoresis. Electrophoresis with novocaine solution and other physiotherapeutic procedures will ease the symptoms of the disease.
  • Therapeutic gymnastics. Medical gymnastics is necessary for the general strengthening of the body.
  • Lifestyle changes. First of all, changes in life are necessary for those people who lead a sedentary lifestyle. It is necessary to break away from your affairs, at least once an hour, and do small exercises.

Spondylosis of the spine develops over the years, progressing long, but true. In the absence of proper treatment in the initial stages, spinal fusion can easily develop into radiculitis.
