Iris-folding - aerobatics of scrapbooking technique

All those who are fond of paper applications, sooner or later get acquainted with the technique of ayris folding, or rainbow folding.

Fundamentals of paper needlework

Despite the fact that ayris folding - as one of the scrapbooking directions - appeared in Holland, its name was originally English. And in translation from the language of Shakespeare - the folding screen of the lens. And this, in turn, explains why paper strips are formed in a specific way. However, it is better to do everything in order.

Iris folding is a special kind of needlework in which, using templates and strips of paper or ribbons, postcards, photo album sheets and even whole pictures are created. And all that the needlewoman will need is paper, a template, a cardboard, scissors and glue.

It should be noted that initially for the execution of hand-made articles in this technique, masters used exclusively the wrong side of the envelopes. Now the choice of types of basic material for postcards and paintings is especially great. In fact, you can use newspapers, and colored paper, and pages of fashion magazines, and even used packaging for gifts. And to create delicate pastel pictures of the needlewoman with success use satin ribbons.

Cardboard is used as the basis for the application. It can be a simple office or specialized art. In addition, we need scissors, paper cutters, glue, double-sided scotch tape. And this means that the whole set of tools for scrapbooking is also successfully used in ayris folding .

Templates, along with paper, are the central element of this type of application. They can be made on their own or purchased at a specialized store. If the needlewoman prefers to develop templates on her own, she usually prints out the outline, and then marks the exact location of the stripes of the future picture with a ruler and a pencil.

Airs-folding technique

To understand how the application is performed in this scrapbooking style, it is enough to try a simple postcard in this technique.

What will be needed: strips of decorative paper, cardboard for the basis for a postcard, a template, scissors, scotch tape.

The process of creativity is as follows:

In the cardboard a hole is cut out, which exactly corresponds to the contour of the template.

Then, with the inner side upward, the workpiece under the postcard is attached using a paint tape to the template. Then on it begin to impose in strict accordance with the template paper tapes. The ends of each strip are attached to the cardboard with an adhesive tape. Yes, on the wrong side the resulting drawing will look rather careless, but after the end of work the front side will not cause reproaches.

In the template used in this example, the center square remains open. In his place, you can put a photo or a tissue flower on a velvet basis. The very opposite side is closed by the second sheet of cardboard, by parameters slightly exceeding the first.

Apparently, the presented application technique is so simple that preschool children can work with it. And the result, with the appearance of proper imagination, will please with grace.
