Sodium sulfate - a means for cleaning the intestines

Among a huge amount of laxatives, sodium sulfate takes a special place. It refers to salt preparations that increase the volume and dilute the intestinal contents. This substance is also known under the synonym of Glauber's salt.

This substance is colorless, air-weathered, clear crystals bitter-salty in taste. Sodium sulfate dissolves easily in water. Two solutions are used to prepare the solution:

- in cold water, dissolve the salt in a ratio of 1: 3;

- in water with a temperature of 32-34 ° C, the ratio of salt and water is 3: 1.

Sodium sulfate, the use of which is based on its properties to act throughout the intestine, is an effective and safe laxative. Its effect is associated, mainly, with the process of changes in the intestinal cavity of the osmotic pressure. Under the influence of this agent there is an active accumulation of water in the intestine. As a result, all the contents of the intestine are diluted, the peristalsis of its walls is intensified, so the stool masses are much more rapidly eliminated. Not the least role in the effect of this drug is irritated with a solution of sodium sulfate receptors of the mucous membranes of the intestinal tract.

In contrast to laxatives of plant origin containing antraglikozidy, glauber's salt acts from the beginning to the very end of the intestine. After eating the drug, the effect is noted after 4-6 hours.

The standard dose of salt: 15-30 g per session - for adults; From the calculation: 1 g for 1 year of life - for children. Take the drug on an empty stomach.

Sodium sulfate, along with other salt laxatives, is indicated for various food poisoning. Its peculiarity is that it not only cleanses the intestines, but also delays the absorption of poisons and prevents their entry into the blood.

Side effects: indigestion, intestinal colic, nausea, copious urination (polyuria).

Contraindications to the use of glauber's salt are: ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammation of the colon with ulceration), duodenal ulcer, peritoneum inflammation (peritonitis), stomach ulcer, appendicitis and other inflammatory diseases of the peritoneum. Contraindicated the use of this laxative and with menstruation, pregnancy, hemorrhoids (inflammation and swelling of the rectum veins) in the acute stage, hypotension (low blood pressure), cachexia (extreme exhaustion), old age.

Admission of this remedy is allowed only upon the permission of the attending physician.

Sodium sulfate is produced in the form of a powder, which must be stored in a well-sealed container.

In contrast to the described drug, sodium lauryl sulfate, which recently is a part of the vast majority of actively advertised toothpastes, shampoos, shower gels, foaming agents, cosmetic cleaners and other cosmetics, can only harm your health. This detergent, obtained during the processing of coconut oil, is the most dangerous ingredient in hygiene and cosmetic products. Its wide application is due to comparative cheapness of raw materials and excellent detergent properties. Scientists around the world, after the latest research on the properties of sodium lauryl sulfate, require the prohibition of the use of this substance for the manufacture of cosmetic and hygiene products. It is established that this substance is able to penetrate into the subcutaneous tissues, where it accumulates. Getting into the human body, it causes poisoning, allergies and promotes the development of cancer cells. This substance is especially dangerous for children.
