Signs of hippies. What does the hippy sign mean?

In any social environment, there are special distinctions. They are traced in the manner of communication, and in appearance. The hippies, for example, clearly notice slang speech (vernacular and anglicisms: "bag" - bag, "shoes" - shoes, "flat" - flat, drink - drink, "dude" - guy, "oldies" - hippies, Having experience, etc.), the hair is long and loose, the motifs of the costumes of different countries are covered in clothes. But there is a special attribute. It includes "khairatnik" (a strap for hair from strings, bright ribbons, leather, jeans), baubles (jewelry with special meaning, they can only be donated) and a patient. These are special signs of hippies. The last and main of these signs will be discussed.

What is it - a symbol of hippies?

This sign represents the right circle, divided by straight lines into four parts. According to some data, it appeared earlier under the slogan "No to radioactive waste!", But according to others, it has a completely different meaning. What do the hippies say about this? For them, the circle means continuity and unity. And the drawing inside is the imprint of the pigeon's paw. By the way, this bird is considered a symbol of peace. It turns out that the hippy sign (the photos are placed in the article) is a kind of statement: "We stand for peace!"

The Pacific can be found not only in pacifist accessories, but also in clothing. Hippy sign - what does it mean today? Why is it so important and so clearly advertised?

Hippies are pacifists. Those who know Latin, it is easy to understand the thinking and views of these people. Recall: Latin pacificus translates as "pacified." The root is "peace." Here is clearly a statement: "Hippies against violence!" This is the basis for the worldview of pacifists. A true hippie does not accept violence, even if it may be required for protection. For these people harmony in the commonwealth "man-nature" is very important. Hippies are essentially very peaceful. Despite the rejection of many of the values of civilization, they defend their rights and views without resorting to cruelty. Hippies are ready to suffer, defending their convictions, and at the same time they will be happy. We'll dig even deeper ...

Basis of pacification

The sign of the hippie world is the rune Algiz, true, inverted. It is known both in direct form and in reverse. Let's consider more in detail Scandinavian straight Algiz is also called Mannar (from man - man). The diagram depicts a person turning to the sky, which means a desire for the sublimity of consciousness. The straight line, which intersects the circle in the center, also points to the universal axis (center), which symbolizes the upper light worlds. The inverted rune symbolizes the world tree with roots deep in the depths (to the earth, to the lower world, to the dead). In the occult, the bowels of the earth have always been associated with the feminine principle. Appeal to the archetypal, matriarchal origin in the hippie environment can not be overlooked. It manifests itself in the first place in appearance. For example, all male hippies should have long hair in which ribbons with bells are woven. We already spoke about ideology: hippies protest against wars and any violence in principle. But the main thing for them is an appeal to the subconscious within oneself, to intuition, to one's own dreams. Hippies show a genuine interest in the traditions of peoples, the ancient world culture, esoteric and philosophical teachings, the teachings of shamans. Folk wave is picked up in the spheres of fine arts, music, cinema. Searching for themselves, the hippies drove away from the gassy, stuffy cities to India, Tibet, the Australian jungle, Mexico. They are alien to the public, mired in dependence on money.

Hippies are considered nomads. Like the Gypsies. Their whole life is an endless hitchhiking. By the way, the inverted Algiz is also traced in the Gypsy Vedic traditions. True, here the signs of hippies are treated differently. Drawing in a circle is nothing more than a crow's foot. Why? Algiz in an inverted form means the lower world (death). And the crow eats everything, not disdaining and carrion. The deadness of the gypsies (and not only) has always been associated with the other world. True, the hippies themselves are skeptical of this relationship. They prefer to call the crow's foot a pigeon - in honor of the bird of the world.

Theory first

The Cold War between the States and the USSR in most countries was accompanied by numerous demonstrations and protests against the development of nuclear weapons and the deployment of missiles in Europe. And pacifists became active participants in the rallies. Even then, the signs of the hippies that we see today have appeared. Numerous images of pacifics, drawn on clothes, posters and even on faces, were probably met even more often than slogans such as "No nuclear war!". It is not surprising that some hippies are now perceived as limiting nuclear weapons. The figure itself represents a rocket, and the circle indicates that a terrible weapon must be restricted or even banned.

Theory of the second

It is called "pigeon". Above we have already considered this option. According to this version, the paw of the world's bird is enclosed as a sign of infinity. It is a symbol of peace, universal love and happiness. And infinite. It recalls the "pigeon" anti-war drawings of all known Pablo Picasso, on the one hand, and the biblical story of the old Noah, who survived the Flood, on the other. Remember who brought the news that the flood was about to end? It was exactly the dove, holding an olive branch in its beak (Genesis, the eighth chapter). This theory of the appearance of pacifics looks more beautiful and, perhaps, even more interesting. But there are other explanations.

Other options

Perhaps, these theories are the most fantastic, but nevertheless have the right to life. The signs of the hippies, according to this theory, were taken from the rune. Above we have already spoken about this (the fifteenth rune of the Old Futhark called Algiz).

Some believe that the symbolizes the horned head of an elk. This animal is considered noble and strong. It represents "hope, security, protection, help."

Another interpretation of the hippy sign is the growing reed (sedge). He constantly aspires upwards. It is explained as a desire for wealth, power, elevation over others. The aspirations to surpass rivals in any skill are full of ambition. A modern rune master from Norway believes that the hippy sign is an image of a Valkyrie with a sword, hence, is interpreted as "fearlessness, strength". True, this explanation is not particularly like the hippies themselves.

Common denominator

As you can see, there are many explanations. But all the above interpretations can be brought to the common denominator: "Unruly. Power. Force. Protection. Peace". However, the interpretation of inverted signs should be considered. The "upside down" will be interpreted with opposite meanings.
