Siberian Laika: a description of the breed

The breed of East Siberian Laika appeared in the difficult climatic conditions of the Far East and Siberia, its representatives were widely used by man for professional hunting for game, furs and even such a large beast as a bear, moose and reindeer. In addition, the Siberian Laika is an unbeatable sled dog, tirelessly working in harness in any weather.

East Siberian Laika is the largest Siberian Laika. In the forties, the hunting man Abramov K.G. First described the dogs of this breed. And in 1949 a standard was developed. Due to the amalgamation of the Amur, Lamud, Evenki, and other inbreeding similar groups of dogs, a hunting East European breed arose. Unique intra-breed types of dogs were the result of isolation of settlements on vast expanses of Siberia. These include "karamist" and "Tunguska" husky.

Siberian Laika, like many working breeds, is a product of natural selection. The harsh conditions of wild nature were borne only by the most enduring, strong and intelligent representatives, and only one in a dozen dogs showed suitability and ability to hunt. Despite the lack of targeted selection work to remove the East Siberian breed, in the opinion of specialists, about 80% of the hunting lakes are purebred. Researcher A. Hertz, studied the size of the breed in the sixties of the twentieth century, it totals 70 thousand purebreds. Professional breeding of East Siberian Laika began in the seventies of the twentieth century, in the Irkutsk and Leningrad nurseries. So far, this breed has not been sufficiently studied and appreciated by connoisseurs and connoisseurs of hunting dogs.

Outwardly, this Siberian husky differs from its closest relatives in large sizes. Its height reaches 56-64 cm, and weight from 18 to 23 kg. She is strong and muscular, has slightly stretched proportions, strong jaws, wide rough skull, straight set, protruding ears. The tail of the East Siberian Laika collapsed on its back into a ring, it is able to lift it in the form of a sickle.

The color of the breed is diverse: the dogs are zone-gray, spotted, with crab, white, gray, black, red and dark red all shades. Allowed a small crab of different shades on the limbs. The wool of the purebred representative of the breed is tough to the touch, coarse, pockmarked, the undercoat is thick and soft. Puppies of the East Siberian Laika usually develop more slowly than puppies of West Siberian and Russian-European breeds.

The character of the dog is balanced and calm. She is perfectly capable of training with a serious and purposeful attitude towards her upbringing (after all, a close relationship with the wolf makes itself felt). For the East Siberian husky, the most ideal conditions are a country house with a large yard, where she could move freely. If you decide to keep a husky in an ordinary city apartment, you will have to spend more time walking with a dog, which is preferable in a park or forest. Because this active breed needs systematic physical activity.

The content of husky is not too burdensome for its owners. The dog is obedient and clever, it does not require big expenses. Representatives of the breed are not very choosy about food, they will do what is left of your table. However, in order to ensure the correct and complete feeding of the husky puppies , it is necessary to include dairy products, cereals, meat, vegetables and offal in their diet so that the dog remains healthy and active for many years.

Laika is a very friendly dog, she requires love and attention, so before you get a puppy, appreciate your real opportunities, not only material, but also moral.
