Sharpening chains chainsaw with their own hands: a description of the process

Any tool should be properly used and be able to maintain it, in order to extend the service life as long as possible. And the chainsaw is not an exception. In this equipment, the main element that needs attention is the chain. Her condition affects the performance of the chainsaw. Therefore, this part must be kept in perfect order. A well-conducted chain sharpening of chainsaws with its own hands determines the productivity and service life of the tool as a whole.

Determinants

Estimate the state of the chain by the following features:

  • Increasing the time required to perform operations and the delivery effort.
  • If the chain "leads" the saw to the side.
  • According to the chips: when working with a sharp saw, the chips are obtained in the same square shape, and when blunt, fine sawdust appears, as from a manual hacksaw, and dust.

These signs indicate that there is a dulling of the teeth, therefore, it is necessary to sharpen chains chainsaw with their own hands. This process is not too complicated.

Methods of self-sharpening

  1. Manual method. It is carried out by means of a file suitable for the diameter (cylindrical). In order for the manual sharpening of the chainsaw chain to be carried out qualitatively , it is necessary to have other tools. That is, you must have a round and flat files, a combination pattern (for each chainsaw individual). For the convenience and simplification of the work process, you will need a vise.
  2. Another method is to use a grinding machine. It can be manual and electric. These devices are great for home conditions, and also greatly simplify the workflow. To do this, you only need to buy a machine for sharpening chains. Currently, there is a huge range of these products in specialized stores. In this case, it will be economical to sharpen the chainsaw chain with a hand-held machine. However, everything depends on the individual desire.

The principle of the chain

Before proceeding to sharpen, it is necessary to understand the principle of operation of this product. There is a chain of limiters and cutting teeth. They are different in height. Cutting tooth saws remove the shavings as a plane, its thickness depends on the height of the limiter. This is important to know. To differ in height, the limiter and the cutting tooth should be 0.5-0.8 mm. This indicator determines the depth of penetration and the efficiency of sawing wood.

Description of the manual method

In this case, the following actions are performed:

  • The chain saw chain with chain is fixed in a vice.
  • Start the process with cutting teeth. When the chainsaw chains are sharpened by their own hands, you should precisely place the circular file with respect to the tooth. The resulting edge of the specified tool must be higher than the top of the specified workpiece by 1/5 of the diameter.
  • The file is mounted on the tooth along the orientation lines, that is, it rests on the cutting edge and the depth gauge.
  • Then do 2-3 smooth movements from yourself, without pressing the file. So sharpen one side, then the other.
  • It is also necessary to rotate the file when sharpening, so that its wear is uniform.
  • The number of movements of this tool and the pressing force must be the same for all teeth. This will ensure a uniform length of all specified elements of this product. If the teeth are not the same in length, the stroke of the chain will be uneven during operation. Cracks may also form. The angle between the visor and the side of the tooth should be 90 °.
  • After the cutting teeth, length limiters are sharpened. This process is also carried out using a file.

Chainsaw chains are only handled with a template. Otherwise, the depth of the chain insertion will increase, vibration will occur and accuracy will be affected. The template is applied so that the stopper protrudes into the slot. The protruding part is cut by a flat file. For working with hard wood species, the template is placed with the HARD or "H" position, and with soft ones - SOFT or "S".

Hand-held machine

This device is in great demand. When the saw teeth are heavily worn and blunt, especially when in contact with the ground, the chainsaw chain must be sharpened with a hand-held machine. It can be stationary or mobile, installed directly on the bus. According to the design it is similar to an arch beam, only with a round file. The machine is adjusted to the smallest tooth of the saw. Adjustment provides the same length for all machined elements. To sharpen the limiter, the file is changed to flat.

Tip

Sharpening chains chainsaw with their own hands can be performed several times during the course of work. This will prevent significant wear of the teeth and reduce the amount of grinding. The most important thing is that the performance will be high.
