Sekira Peruna is a Slavic amulet. The value of the symbol

In our rather difficult time, even a very strong and self-assured person tries to enlist the support (even if not entirely understandable) of the magical powers. Obereg, according to experts, can be almost any subject, but that's strong and effective is only one that is connected with the history and energy of its people. One of the oldest Slavic amulets is the ax of Perun - the god of thunder and lightning, who was able to defeat the Serpent who swallowed the Light. Let's remember, who was the god of thunder in the pantheon of the gods of the Slavs and why is his weapon considered one of the strongest magic amulets?

Son of Svarog

In the beliefs of the Slavs, Perun is the god of thunderclouds, thunder and lightning, a symbol of princely power, the patron of the prince's squad and all the warriors. He was born Lada, the goddess of spring, marriage and love, from Svarog, the god of fire. The name Perun is interpreted as "smashing". He was known under different names from different tribes and peoples. The Western Slavs called him Prove, in Belarus - Pyroun, and in Lithuania - Perkunas. In the Scandinavian tradition, the gods called Thunder the Thunder, in the Celtic - Tharinis.

Descriptions of the god of a thunderstorm in different peoples are similar. He has a red beard, black hair with silver, similar in color to a thundercloud. Moved Perun, according to the Slavs, across the sky on a horse or chariot, with the black and white winged stallions harnessed into it.

The god of the storm was armed with thunder bolts, lightning, sword, spear, and various clubs and axes. The most powerful weapon in his arsenal is the ax of Perun. The Slavs, who found fragments of ancient stone tools in the ground, sincerely believed that they were fragments of spears and arrows that the god of thunder and lightning dropped during the battles. Such artifacts were highly valued by the Slavs, they were attributed healing and magical properties.

Other duties

Besides the fact that Perun patronized the warriors and soldiers, he was the god of thunder, thunder and lightning, he was still in charge of controlling the elements and controlling certain areas of human life.

In earlier times, people believed that in the first spring thunderstorms, it was this god who opened the clouds with lightning, so that "tears of the sky" - rain fell on the ground. In addition, Perun oversees the implementation of laws, and in the event of their violation, it may well punish drought and hunger. For the unworthy behavior of people and their bad deeds, the thunderer could burn human dwellings.

Thus, Perun, according to the beliefs of the Slavs, was:

  • The god of thunder, lightning and thunder;
  • Ruler, who watched the execution of laws;
  • Patron of all the soldiers who defended their homeland, land and family;
  • A symbol of princely power.

How was he worshiped?

To such a god as Perun, on whom the life of people depended, sanctuaries were created in Kiev and Veliky Novgorod, where specially made idols were installed. The body of the god of thunder was cut from the oak, which was considered to be its symbol, the mustache and ears are cast from gold, the head is made of silver, and the legs are made of iron. In his hands he held a gem-decorated club, resembling a bolt of lightning. Before such an image, the fire was constantly burning, which was supported by a special priest. If, for some reason, the fire faded, the priest responsible for him was executed.

Modern archaeologists have found many sanctuaries dedicated to Perun, which were created under the open sky. An idol was set up in the center, before it was placed an altar in the form of an iron ring for sacrifices. Around the Perun image, six or eight holes were excavated, in which fires were kindled.

To the terrible god, sacrifices were made quite often, but the largest occurred on the eve of battles, natural disasters and popular unrest. The greatest number of offerings was on Perun's Day, celebrated on July 20.

When they began to make amulets?

According to the data obtained as a result of archaeological excavations, the guard of "Sekir Perun" was started to be manufactured in Kiev already in the Xth century. It was there that two axes of the period were found.

One of the finds was a lead made of lead, on which an ornament was made from parallel lines, circles and zigzags. The weapon repeated the oldest type of Russian ax with a wide blade and an internal notch. During the reign of the first princes of Kievan Rus, around the 10th century, Perun was the patron of warriors and prince's squad. In the name of this god the princes Oleg, Svyatoslav and Igor vowed with their druzhinami when concluding treaties with the Greeks. Since the XI century bronze began to cast amulet in the form of Russian ax, which became popular in such cities as Suzdal, Drogichin, Novgorod, etc.

Who helps?

Today the ax is considered a strong male charm. Usually they were bestowed on the soldiers for multiplying courage and valor, increasing strength and attracting luck in the military business. However, archaeological excavations have shown that this amulet was widely used in the 11th-12th centuries by women who worshiped the Thunderer and hoped for his protection and patronage. In addition, around this time the ax of Peruna changes its meaning a little and is used to protect against negative magical influences, such as evil eye and spoilage, and also to attract luck in implementing the plans conceived.

Usually this amulet was made of silver or bronze of various sizes. To increase the defensive forces, special signs, symbols of the sun or lightning were applied to this magical object. The silver ax of Peruna is a symbol for the leader, the leader. It means purity of intent, spiritual and physical strength. In addition, this amulet is able to protect its owner from negative influences and low thoughts.

Today, this amulet can be used more widely: it can strengthen the tenacity and steadfastness, purposefulness and courage of people not related to the military sphere.

This magic sign patronizes not only its owner, but also his family. It was used in a variety of life situations throughout life. So, to protect the house from evil spirits, the ax was thrust into the jamb of the house. To protect the newlyweds at the wedding, so that no one harmed or punched, the circle of young people was drawn around the young. In order to drive away from the house where the woman gives birth, evil spirits, at the doorstep they put this weapon. The ax was beaten by a shop on which someone died, believing that this way they "cut" and expelled Death.
