He was born Lada, the goddess of spring, marriage and love, from Svarog, the god of fire. The name Perun is interpreted as "smashing". He was known under different names from different tribes and peoples. The Western Slavs called him Prove, in Belarus - Pyroun, and in Lithuania - Perkunas. To the terrible god, sacrifices were made quite often, but the largest occurred on the eve of battles, natural disasters and popular unrest. The greatest number of offerings was on Perun's Day, celebrated on July 20.
