He, along with friends, ran to the bank of the river, where he trained fighting skills in the sand. At the age of 13 he took part in his first competition - the Dagestan Championship in Wushu-san. At that championship, Rustam reached the semi-finals, but his health did not allow him to break further. However, the spirit of the Tiger began to form, as, having caught a cold, he managed to win the fight for 3rd place.

In the days of students Rustam became even more zealous in sports and practiced with Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, a well-known sambo coach. His son, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is the best Russian fighter at the moment, is on friendly terms with Rustam.

Sports career

Khabilov's debut in mixed martial arts happened in 2007. Then he met with Azerbaijani athlete Bagautdin Abasov and was able to win. Then until 2011 Rustam Khabilov had a series of 11 consecutive wins, which interested the leading leagues of the world. In 2011, the Tiger suffered the first defeat, losing to Ruslan Khaskhanov. In the same year, Rustam went to the United States for the famous coach Greg Jackson, training with which was not in vain.

In 2012, Khabilov becomes a fighter of the strongest league of the world and wins in the first battle. The third fight under the aegis of the UFC was very important for him, then Tiger met one of the current contenders for the title of Jorge Masvidal. Rustam Khabilov was uncontrollable that evening, he showed everything he was capable of, and confidently defeated the American. Then followed the first defeat in the UFC from Benson Henderson. The next fight Khabilov lost by a separate decision of the judges. But then he managed to win four victories in a row, which allowed Rustam to climb to the 11th line of the lightweight ranking.
