Rose line in Paris. Prime Meridian. Aragon medallions

Dan Brown is a great hoaxer and inventor. In his best-selling "Da Vinci Code", he thoroughly confronted the reader with all his questions, giving his personal interpretations of the facts. We will try to highlight the true situation and give an explanation of what the Rose Line is. For this you will have to remember geography. Also touch on the issue of the medallions of Arago (Arago). Rosa line with them in the novel is connected.

Meridians

These are conditional lines that were needed in navigation to count the longitude. They show how the imaginary north-south line is directed, and connect the North and South poles of the Earth. Two international congresses and two international conferences in the nineteenth century continued to discuss the issue of the zero meridian. This was claimed by thirty countries and cities, including St. Petersburg (we named it, as it is in the territory of our homeland), and Paris, because through him for a long time since Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu passed the meridian Ferro through the Paris Observatory, Which was used as the primary reference point. All the points above the "i" set the conference in Washington in 1884, and not in 1888, as in Brown, and determined the place where the zero meridian would be located. Its conditional place is in Greenwich near London. He divided the Earth into two hemispheres: the Eastern and the Western. Today, since 1989, the International Reference Meridian (its longitude is 0 °) has been used since 1989, and it passes approximately one hundred two meters from the Greenwich Observatory and is required to calculate the coordinates with respect to the Earth's mass center with the smallest error.

It did not appear by chance, but because the tectonic plates on which the continents stand are constantly moving, including Greenwich, and do not give the accuracy required in modern conditions.

Church of San Sulpice

The author sent an albino killer to the ancient 17th century church of San Sulpice. She is big and ugly. Tourists did not visit it until the bestselling. In it, this monster saw a gnomon (sundial) and a copper strip, on which a line with divisions was marked. "The line of the Rose, which divides the room, like a meridian, exactly from north to south," the assassin immediately recognized. The sun, passing through the window, moves its rays along this line, showing the time of the solstice. This was required by the church for an accurate time setting when Easter comes, and no one has ever called it the "Rose Line". This is an invention of the author.

No mysticism, except for the Grail, which is searched throughout the entire novel, is in fact not in the temple. The whole church is described very convincingly. The photo clearly shows the ancient obelisk and the strip going to it. "Rose Line" rises over it and disappears from our eyes. On the windows of the church there are Latin letters P and S. These are not the signs of Priory of Zion, but the initials of the patrons of the church: St. Peter and St. Sulpis.

On the maps of travelers and seafarers the compass of Rosa was depicted. He noted not only the four directions of the world: the north (N), south (S), east (E), west (W), as well as their thirty-two intermediate states. The same number of petals has a rose. This device was the main one in navigation. Its four main arrows stand out distinctly on the Rose of the Rumba. The northern direction was often called fleur-de-lis.

The map of Paris shows in red how the Parisian meridian passes: through the observatory, through the Luxembourg garden and past the Louvre. The yellow line running parallel is the meridian (gnomon) of San Sulpice. The first is scientific, and the second is spiritual.

Roslin Chapel

It is a touching reunion of the heroine of Sophie Neveu with her family. The chapel on Brown recreates the temple of Solomon. In fact, it was built by Earl Rosley, Sir William St. Clair in the 15th century. Templars associated with the Masonic societies that erected it, is a beautiful flight of the writer's fantasy. It is located near Edinburgh, and it is visited by a considerable number of tourists. Masons who built it, decorated it with numerous symbols of their order: five-pointed stars, roses of five petals. In it you can find scenes with biblical subjects, as well as gargoyles, which by tradition have always been placed in medieval religious buildings.

Here, the Celtic god of nature, who patronized the green grass and spring water, took its place. But the most surprising thing is that it has an image of the ear of corn. By this time America was not yet open to Europeans. Two columns, covered with carvings, compete among themselves for the beauty of the decorations applied to them. Tradition says that one of them was created by the teacher, and the second, more skilful, is the disciple, for which he was killed. The once beautiful carving has suffered greatly from the past. Restoration, carried out in the last century, was unsuccessful and caused even greater harm to the chapel. How to fix this situation, restorers do not yet know. And a paradox was created - there is money for restoration, but no one knows how to produce it.

The Way of Lengdon to the Louvre

The protagonist, returning from Roslin, where he also found himself standing under the Rose Line, headed from the hotel to the Louvre to find the symbols of Priory of Zion. On the way, he was looking for bronze medallions of Arago. They, according to the hero, is the Rose Line in Paris. They really are. Each of the 135 medallions was created by the Dutch artist Jan Dibets in 1989 - 1994 to capture the memory of Dominique Arago. Who was he? Dominic Arago is a physicist and astronomer, who in 1806 accurately measured the French meridian. In addition, he has considerable merit before the world science.

Aragon medals are also a reminder that Paris was once the center of the world. They stretch for five miles. They bear his name and direction north-south (N and S). The sacred meaning that Brown gave them, they do not. This road, as Lengdon calls it, the ancient Rose Line in Paris, led him from the Palais Royal garden directly to the Pyramid of the Louvre.

The Louvre

The beginning and end of the novel take place in the Louvre. The entrance to it now passes through a pyramid built by the American Bay Yumin, who is an ethnic Chinese. Dan Brown believed that it consists of a devilish amount of crystals - 666, which in fact does not correspond to the truth. These glass rhomboid and triangular plates are more - 673. Light passes through them and provides sufficient illumination. In addition to it, designer K. Engle worked on additional lighting, which, on all sides, supplied the lamps. They were replaced by more modern ones in 2014.

"Sunny Meridian"

The solar meridian itself does not exist in science. Such a beautiful name is the newspaper of the Khabarovsk Territory, which is a budgetary institution and is in municipal ownership. It has been working steadily since 1994 and is distributed by subscription and retail. She has a TV program. It can also be published by submitting an application, advertisements.
