Roof of corrugated board with your own hands: how is it done?

In recent years, the construction industry in our country is experiencing a real second birth. Volumes of construction are constantly growing, many citizens are implementing their dream: they are building their own cottages.

Naturally, in such conditions, the cheapness and practicality of the materials used is of particular importance. So, the roof made of corrugated board, made with own hands, will allow not only to save on construction, but also to do it without sacrificing the quality of the entire structure.

Why profiled?

More recently, the roofs of private houses have often been covered with slate. Fortunately, this heavy and not very convenient in mounting material has recently been almost completely replaced by cheap and functional analogs, the best of which is rightly considered to be profiled. This material is lightweight, easy to install and cheap, which determines its choice in private construction. In short, a roof made of corrugated board by your own hands is an excellent choice that will allow you to start a house under the roof, even without having a huge construction budget.

Where to begin?

Strangely enough, but before you start, you will need to measure the slope of your roof, as much will depend on the results of these measurements. So, at an angle of inclination of up to 14 degrees, sheets can be fixed with an overlap of 20 centimeters. With a steepness of the roof to 30 degrees, this value can be reduced to 15 centimeters. Finally, a size of only 10 centimeters is done when the angle exceeds 30 degrees. By the way, in the latter case, the roof made of corrugated board, made by hand, will be the most durable, since snow from it will go much better and in shorter terms.

Additional materials

Do not forget about the purchase of moisture-proof materials. Unfortunately, many builders completely ignore this aspect, as a result of which the roof life time is reduced to absurd values. This is all the more strange, given the fact that special "breathing" membranes are not so expensive. These materials are attached to the roof with a construction stapler, and the seams are glued with a special adhesive tape. It is necessary to put them overlap (15-20 cm).

Begin to lay the sheets from the lower right or left corner of the ramp. Take into account that the roof made of corrugated board, constructed by itself, provides for the obligatory removal of corrugated sheet corrugated sheets. Fasten them with self-tapping screws 4.8x35 mm, screwing them exactly at right angles. Each square meter consumes 6-7 fasteners. The sheets are also fastened together by self-tapping screws, screwing them in every 50 cm.

Helpful advice! If you are completely limited in your budget, you can cover the roof with a corrugated board with your own hands on top of an ordinary roofing felt.

Upon completion of work, we strongly advise you to carefully work all the seams with a special silicone sealant. Of course, this is rather laborious work, but the roof life will increase several times.

For ridge bars it is advisable to use special seals, and the skate itself is fastened again with self-tapping screws, the length of which should not be less than 80 mm. All the places of cuts and chips must be treated with mastic or enamels.
