Reservoir Cheboksary: description, fishing, photo

The Cheboksary water reservoir is formed by the dam of the same-name HPP located in Novocheboksarsk, the Republic of Chuvashia. The construction of the hydroelectric complex was started as early as 1968. However, because of the contradictions between the regions, it can not be completed to this day. At present, the plant is operating at 63 m.

There is a reservoir on the Volga River. Territorially belongs to the Nizhny Novgorod region, Chuvashia and the Republic of Mari El.

a brief description of

The reservoir Cheboksarskoye is a part of the Volga-Kama cascade. The beginning of the filling dates back to 1980, and was completely formed in 1982. The reservoir area is more than 2 thousand square kilometers, the length is about 340 km. As for the width, the maximum mark varies within 16 km and the depth is 35 m. It is navigable both for passenger, mainly tourist, and for freight routes.

During the formation of the reservoir, the village of Korotni was flooded. Completely water is replaced within 15-20 days. The level of the Cheboksary reservoir is planned to be raised to a level of 68 m (currently 63 m), but this will result in the flooding of more than 350 thousand hectares. Then Nizhny Novgorod and other industrial centers will be under threat.

Problems

Overlapping of the Volga in November 1980 is now recognized as an unjustified decision. The river and so on all its length, from its sources in the Tver region to the lower reaches in the south of the country, is a cascade of reservoirs. Their replacement can not but affect adversely on the ecology of regions and water resources in particular.

The reservoir Cheboksarskoye surround burs, oak forests. However, these beautiful forests suffer during flooding, which leads to large losses of wood. A decrease in the harvest of wild berries and mushrooms was also observed.

A clear exit and a solution to the problem of pollution of the habitat of valuable species of freshwater fish, such as pike, pike perch, bream, is currently not available. About 100 million rubles were spent in early 2006 for project surveys and proposals to eliminate the main problems of water pollution. The main problem to be solved is the swampiness of the areas adjacent to the reservoir.
