Replacing the anther of the steering rack

This small detail prevents water, dirt and dust from entering this mechanism. As you use this anther can become unusable, for example, tear - then it needs to be changed. Understand that this protective casing is torn, it turns out not always. In order to make sure that the anther is intact, you should turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and inspect the part we are interested in. Then - the same, but turn all the way to the left.

The steering wheel should be rotated because it moves the traction and the gear part. Together with these elements, the protective cover also deforms.

So, let's try to replace the part without the need for dismantling. To do this, remove the air filter, so that it then does not interfere with us. Also, disconnect the water outlet. Now unscrew the mechanism protection. This is simply done by twisting several nuts M10.

Then, with the 20 wrench, unscrew the rods and remove them, unscrew the yoke, which fastens the mechanism to the body of the car. Knit screeds from the extreme sides of the anther and remove it.

Now the cleaning stage. It should be cleaned and lubricated thoroughly. You can use a grease for the shrus, lithol or graphite grease. Before installing a new anther, lubricate the inside. After all, it moves along with the drafts. Put it on the rail and make sure it moves freely. Then twist it all back.

On the example of VAZ 2110 let's see how this design is being replaced. Removing the rail is the simplest part of the job. To do this, unscrew the bolt holding the coupling. You will find it under the pedals. Here you need the key to 13. Next - move to the engine compartment. Here, unscrew the nuts that attach the whole structure to the body. Then push the mechanism forward until the fastener comes out. Now the part can be reached through the wheel arch. It remains only to install a new part and assemble in the reverse order.
