Tie Rod Replacement: Step by Step Process

Steering is what makes a car move. It consists of a steering gear and a mechanism. The second of them provides for the transfer of forces to the steering gear. The mechanism consists of a crankcase, a steering wheel with a shaft and a steering bipod. And the drive includes left, side, right and middle traction, pivot and swivel levers of the wheels.

Before talking on such a subject as the replacement of steering rods, it is worth noting that each of them has hinges. They are needed so that the moving parts of the drive can easily rotate relative to the body and each other in different planes.

So, now it is worth mentioning directly the theme of "replacing the steering rods." The first - it is necessary to replace the torn dust guard of the shaft, in order to avoid water and dirt entering it. They will quickly disable the sail. Also, before the steering rods are replaced , it is necessary to replace the shirring bush. This is easy to do without even removing the tip from the traction. Internal bent tips of rods must be replaced.

So, what does the steering rod replacement involve?

1. First, you need to brake the car with the parking brake, and then install under the wheel building stubborn bars. Then hang out the corresponding wheel, place the vehicle on the support and remove it.

2. Then you need to clean the thrust nut to the lever (swivel) and apply a WD-40 fluid (this type should be selected) to the threaded connection. This will be required to facilitate the process of turning the tie nut.

3. Then the cotter pin of the hinge (ball) nut is pulled out to the swing arm.

4. After that, it is required to unscrew the nut of its fastening. It is impossible not to mention the rake. The steering rack scheme is very specific. And to remove the rail itself, you need to unscrew the nut and pull out the stopper. After that, the tips and ball joints of the rods are disconnected. Then, the front beam bolts and hoses are loosened. Only then the rack is already unscrewed.

5. Using a puller, it is necessary to press out the ball joint pin from the swing arm.

6. Then the bolts must be unscrewed. To do this, it is necessary to bend the ends of the locking plate with a screwdriver.

7. Then tighten all bolts, then the fastening bolt turns away.

8. Then turn the connecting plate in such a way that it turns out to detach the steering rod itself from the mechanism.

9. After that you can remove the cravings.

10. Then, the steering rod is clamped in the vice on the coupler by the hexagon, then loosen the lock nut.

11. The tip of the thrust must be turned off, counting the number of revolutions it has made. The received digit should be written down. The new tip should be wrapped in the number of revolutions performed by the old one.

12. To replace the anther, remove the O-ring.

13. Then the spring ring is removed, after which it is necessary to remove the dust cover from the steering tip.

14. You will then need to remove the top layer of dirty grease. In the event that mud gets inside the hinge, it needs to be replaced. After that, a new lubricant is applied. In the new anther, the same lubricant is laid, after which it is installed on the hinge. To do this, you need to put it on the edge of the seat, located on the hinged case.

15. Then the sealing ring and the spring ring are installed.

16. After this, it is necessary to check whether the rings have been correctly installed, as well as how closely the edges of the cap fit tightly.

17. Then the steering rod is installed on the car in the reverse order removal. Bolts of fasteners must be tightened more tightly. After that, they need to be twisted. For best results, it is necessary to fold the edges of the lock plate.

That's complete replacement of steering rods!
