Reinstalling Mac OS on a modern computer

A few decades ago, the operating system Mac OS X was almost not known to a wide range of computer users. Basically, this state of affairs was explained by the high cost of equipment operating under this program, and, correspondingly, the rarity of getting it to our market. Usually these were computers that control video editing and graphic files in large enterprises. But recently the number of gadgets that use this operating system (OS) has increased significantly.

Almost every year there are new versions for updating these programs. And it is not always possible to install such operating systems by updating them. Often, you need to reinstall Mac OS from scratch. We will understand more in detail.

When do I need to reinstall Mac OS?

Although Mac OS is one of the most reliable to date operating computer program for computers, however, as its users notice, from time to time it still has to be reinstalled. Why do I need to reinstall Mac OS? There are several reasons for this. First, the operation of the operating system imposes a certain imprint on the internal state of the computer. And this leads to the fact that the OS lags and slows down its work. Even with the installation of the next update, this garbage remains in the system and significant improvements are not given.

Secondly, when installing additional custom programs, and then after removing them, traces also remain in the computer. And this problem is not even in the imperfection of the OS, it is the influence of the human factor on the work of this program. Much depends on the user. If he has a good preparation, then it will last a long time. And if such training is not available, the user can "quickly put the system" fast enough, as the system administrators say.

How do I start reinstalling the system?

Everyone who starts reinstalling the Mac OS X operating system must remember two important points. The first thing to do is save a backup copy of the previous OS so that if the installation fails, it would be possible to "roll back the system". Apple has provided a good program in the suite of utilities, which can just solve this problem. This utility is called Time Machine. With this program, you can make a backup copy of the operating system, and you do not need to save it on the system drive that will be formatted when installing from scratch, but elsewhere.

The second, equally important, task is to save information about the account, which can include email contacts, search engine settings, favorites, photos and media files. Usually such information can take up a lot of space. And the program that will help to fulfill this function is everyone familiar with iCloud. And after carrying out this operation, the user can be sure that the most important information is stored, and in the extreme case he can restore the system's efficiency.

Making a boot drive

The next thing to do is prepare a bootable USB flash drive. How to do it? Reinstalling Mac OS using a bootable USB flash drive will require a certain size of this drive. It should be at least eight gigabytes, more - better. The creators of Mac OS provided a utility that will be needed to create such a drive. This disk utility, when you connect the USB flash drive to your computer, it automatically starts and asks what to do next with the two drives that it found.

Using it, we format the USB flash drive into Mac OS Extended format and give it the appropriate name. And after that the USB-drive is ready for pouring the system onto it.

Filling the system on a USB flash drive

There are several ways to upload the system to a USB drive. The first method is intended for those who like to work with the terminal, for its implementation, certain knowledge of the operating system is necessary. The second method is implemented using the utility DiskMaker X and, as the users say, "easier to steam turnip." In the App Store, DiskMaker X is downloaded and installed, which finds the installation package in the specified directory and installs it to the USB flash drive by itself.

Final reinstallation of Mac OS from USB flash drive to computer

The prepared USB-drive (it was described above) with the OS is connected to the computer and we overload it. A computer, when detecting a bootable USB flash drive, starts a disk utility that is waiting for the user to decide what to do with it. The computer screen will show all the disks that are present on the computer, including the bootable USB-drive. If the user selects a bootable USB flash drive, the disk utility starts the installation package, which is interested in which drive to install the OS on. After specifying a disk, the installation package will first format it, removing all previous data from it, and begin installing the system from scratch.
