Puttying walls and ceilings with your own hands

Types of putty.

Before the beginning of work on leveling walls and ceilings by means of putty it is necessary, first of all, to be defined with a choice of a material. Until recently, oil-glue putties made on the basis of drying oil were very popular. But lately there has been a growing demand for safer materials in terms of ecology and this kind of putty has been forced out from the building materials market with water-based fillers.

Putties are sold in the form of dry mixes, which are diluted with water or a primer. Stir the mixture can be mechanically done with a construction mixer - a special drill bit. The mixture is diluted ideally and forms a homogeneous mass.

Acrylic putties are used for facade work . They are most resistant to atmospheric precipitation and have been used mainly for outdoor works

Preparation of walls for putty.

Wall putty is not a very complicated process, but requires certain skills.

Walls or ceilings before shpaklevkoj need to be cleaned of old paint, plaster and primed in order to protect against fungus and better adhesion of putty and surface finish. To avoid cracking of putty, and also for good coupling use a special tape serpyanka. The tape is self-adhesive, but it is usually glued with PVA glue brush.

The process of surface filler.

After the preparatory work, you can start applying the putty. First you need to learn how to dilute the mixture to the desired density. The finished mixture must be mobile, that is, without effort, be mixed manually and do not fall off the spatula.

To work, you need 2 spatulas (large and small), a container for mixing the mixture, and as previously mentioned, a drill and a mixer. Subsequently, sandpaper or a special grinding mesh with a holder will be needed, by means of which the surface is finished to a smooth state.

The putty of walls is carried out as follows:

A small spatula is superimposed on the large spatula, which, in turn, level the mixture over the surface. The applied layer is adjusted by the angle of the spatula, it can be changed as desired, depending on the unevenness of the wall. Constantly in the course should be 2 spatula, a small superimposes and disposes of a large spatula, a large application of the mixture on the surface. After passing a large spatula, the strips remain, which are then removed with sandpaper or mesh (after the first layer has dried completely).

After stripping, it is recommended to re-primer the surface and apply a second layer of putty. To perform this operation, you can apply a spatula wider. If the first layer was applied with a 40 cm spatula, then a 80 cm spatula is used for the second layer.

In the course of the work, experience emerges and in due course the puttying of the walls with your own hands will become quite real.

The first layer is applied with the starting putty, and the second and subsequent layers are finished. Well proven Rothband - a universal plaster, suitable for both layers. As a finish specialists recommend Fugenfüller or Vetonit.

The starting puttying of the walls is made with coarser materials to level out large differences on the walls, shtroby and potholes. The starting putty can be applied to a layer of up to 1.5 cm, if necessary, apply several layers, pre-let dry before. In such cases, a method of leveling walls with the help of special metal profiles - beacons - is often used. The wall in this performance is perfectly even.

The finishing putty of walls is used for final finishing in order to give a smooth surface, with no cracks or pores. It is applied in a thin layer and is absolutely not suitable for leveling, since it has a different structure than the starting one and gives cracks when the thickened layer.

Ceiling putty is carried out according to the same scheme as on walls, but differs by a more labor-intensive process. Therefore, for those who want to learn these basics, it's better to practice on the walls.
