President of Ingushetia Yunus-bek Yevkurov

The North Caucasus is a rather specific region with a great influence of informal clan and kinship ties. On this basis, the federal leadership seeks to appoint people in the mountainous republics who are not closely connected with the local elite and who stand over all disputes in order to avoid conflict of interests between the opposing groups. One of the nominees of this wave is the president of Ingushetia Evkurov, whose biography will be described below. He is Ingush by nationality, but was born in North Ossetia and made a military career in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces.

Peasant son

The life of the president of Ingushetia Yevkurov begins in 1963, when a child was born to a large family of Ingush in Prigorodny district of North Ossetia. In total, Yunus-Bek Bamatgireyevich has six brothers and five sisters. A boy grew up in the village of Angusht, received a general secondary education at a boarding school in Beslan.

The shortest way to get out of the countryside for a Caucasian youth was to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1982, the future president of Ingushetia begins military service in the Pacific Fleet Marine Corps. At the end of the compulsory term, a native of Ossetia received a recommendation from the command of the unit to enter the famous Ryazan landing school.

After graduating from school, in 1989 he entered the service in the reconnaissance of the Guards Airborne Division in Belorussia. A capable officer, Yevkurov graduated from the Frunze Military Academy in 1997.

Combat Colonel

The further path of Yunus-bek Bamatgireyevich is marked by participation in a number of military operations. In the rank of major, he performed peacekeeping functions as part of the Russian troops in Bosnia in 1999.

With the participation of Yevkurov, the famous march-throw to the airport of Prishtina was made. For this he was awarded a government award. According to some reports, a group of special forces of the GRU of 18 people seized and held the airport until the approach of the main forces of the paratroopers.

Already a lieutenant colonel, Yunus-bek Yevkurov takes part in the Second Chechen War. He repeatedly manifests personal courage and initiative in the conduct of military operations. While in the post of Chief of Staff of the Guards Airborne Regiment, the lieutenant-colonel personally directs the release of twelve Russian servicemen from captivity.

The officer's feats on the battlefield were not ignored. In 2000, Yevkurov was awarded the title of Hero of Russia.

From military service to politics

In 2001, an Ingush officer enters the Academy of the General Staff, after which he goes to the Urals Military District as deputy intelligence director. Far from his native North Caucasus, he carries his service until 2008.

At this time in Ingushetia, a real conflict flares up, which threatens to turn into a real armed confrontation. The situation is aggravated by the presence of an Islamist underground.

Murat Zyazikov resigns, and the federal center decides on the appointment of Yunus-bek Yevkurov to the post of president of Ingushetia. Not a member of any clan, he had to become a neutral figure in the leadership of the republic and unite society.

His inauguration began with a beautiful gesture - he refused a solemn inauguration, explaining this by his desire to save budget funds. The new president of Ingushetia held the first meeting with the citizens of the republic right in the central mosque in Nazran. Here he began to urge the elite to support him in the performance of the duties of the head of the republic.

Attempts and scandals

The combat officer successfully passed the fights tests, however, the greatest danger awaited him in the civil service. In 2009, Nazran was assassinated.

The motorcade of the President of the Republic of Ingushetia was attacked by a car with explosives on board. As a result of the terrorist attack, one of the guards of the head of the republic was killed, and Yevkurov Yunus-bek, his brother and members of the security service were seriously injured. The condition of the President of Ingushetia was assessed as difficult, but after a short time he overcame all difficulties and resumed his duties.

As part of the fight against corruption and clanism, Yevkurov, on taking office, massed in the administration of the president of Ingushetia, getting rid of the vicious legacy of the past.

However, the military general does not always have a relationship with his neighbors. The notorious head of the nearby North Caucasian republic blames the participant of the Second Chechen War and the hero of Russia for liberalism and gentleness towards members of the bandit underground.
