The back line is the players who defend their ring from enemy attacks, and also begin to attack their own team. Accordingly, the front line is the players who attack the opponent's ring. They can also try to prevent the enemy from moving to a counterattack. Strictly speaking, there is nothing complicated in this: different formations assume different number of players in the lines, but the standard scheme implies two players of the back line and three players of the front line. Base positions

The positions in basketball are different for each player, but they will be discussed a little later. There are only five of them, and each of them will be told in detail. But first you need to consider the basic positions, which are only three: the defender, the center and the striker. The defenders defend the ring, the attackers attack the opponent's ring, and the center line is the link between the attack and defense. It is impossible to single out any of the most important of the three basic positions, because each of them is incredibly important. But these are only general concepts. Five positions

So, it's time to make out the five basic positions of basketball. In the back line, it's point guard and attacking defenders, and in the front - a heavy and easy forward, as well as center.

Point guard

So, start with the analysis of abbreviations that are used in basketball to indicate specific positions on the field. For example, SF is a position in basketball, which means an easy forward, which is usually closest to the rest of the opponent's ring. In English, it is called either the comboboard or point guard, and its reduction looks like PG (in the Russian version, respectively, RZ). What are the functions of this player? As for the role on the field, this defender, as you could already understand from the title of the position, is more aimed at an attack than on defense. Usually this is the best team sniper, who can score more points than others, and also tighten the defense of the opponent, unleashing the hands of his partners. In defense, however, this player's task is to patronize the most dangerous attacking opponents.

Now you know what position is in the basketball in the back line. It's time to move on to the front line, in which there are three more players.

Easy forward

The first player of the attacking line, which is worth talking about, is an easy forward, which was already mentioned a little earlier. In English, this position is called pitch forward, i.e. SF. Accordingly, the Russian reduction for this position is LF. But more importantly, what role this player performs on the field. This position is the place for the mobile attacking player. He acts immediately on the whole front, and also can spend a lot of time under the ring, collecting points there. Very many well-known basketball players have played at this position or at a mixed point point forward. The latter combines the features of both an easy striker and a point guard. As you can see, absolutely all the positions in basketball play a huge role. The description of each of them proves this once again.

Heavy forward

This is a rather interesting position, which allows the player to work out both in attack and defense. Moreover, some famous heavy forwards almost always concentrate on defensive actions, but there are those who manage to earn a quarter or even a third of all points of their team. In English, this position is called the power forward and, accordingly, is denoted as PF, but in Russian its abbreviation, naturally, is denoted as TF. Immediately it is worth saying that the main duty of this player, who is not so close to the opponent's ring as an easy forward, is the selection of the ball both in defense and in attack. Accordingly, the player must have a high physical strength, a powerful combination, because otherwise it will be very difficult to cope with such a task. As with the easy forward, this position can be combined with the duties of the point guard (or playing a combo, which serves as both attackers). However, this practice is rare, since the amount of work for a heavy striker is already impressive. Accordingly, such mixtures are infrequent.

Center

And of course, it is necessary to tell more about the center, which in fact is the center of the whole team. In English, it is called - the center - and is therefore designated accordingly - C. As you can already understand, in Russian the abbreviation will be exactly the same, therefore in all languages this position is designated as Ts.

As for the role of the player, everything is rather complicated here. It would seem that this player should play in the center of the field and connect the attack with protection - by analogy with football. But in fact, everything here is quite different, because the center in basketball determines its center by the field not along, but across. And this means that this player is always focused on the opponent's ring. Strictly speaking, his task is to play under the ring and get points. Of course, this is the task for the highest player in the team, so most often in this position you can meet players growing more than 210 centimeters, up to 225 centimeters. Please note that the center can take on additional duties as a heavy forward so that he can play the point of the forward or the combo, thus moving away from the ring and playing a little further, which changes his functions.
