Pitsunda - sights. Pitsunda

Pitsunda is a city in Abkhazia, a Black Sea resort of world importance. The history of the city goes back to the beginning of the II century BC. E., The period of the formation of the Roman legions. Later Pitsunda became the center of Caucasian Christianity.

Resort status and infrastructure

Currently, the resort town of Pitsunda, thanks to the subtropical climate, is a popular resort, which has more than ten high-rise 14-storey boarding houses, several health resorts, rest homes and hotels. All buildings are located along the coast, a stone's throw from the comfortable beaches - sandy and pebbly. Infrastructure Pitsunda is designed so that each boarding house is a completely autonomous education, everything is there: catering and restaurants, gaming and concert halls, cinemas and night clubs. In such an institution you can live without leaving its territory for weeks. However, no one remains in the high-rise building, if the sea is calm, and in the sky - the sun.

The Legacy of the Soviet Union

Pitsunda, whose sights are for the most part the legacy of the once great and mighty USSR (however, some of them have been preserved since ancient times and have unconditional historical value), is primarily considered a resort town - with beaches, sea, attractions and all the details that follow from here. As for any unique structures or relics, all of them have long been studied and systematized by local scientists. Pitsunda is a conservative city, new architectural monuments do not appear in it, the historical museum is not replenished every year with new exhibits ... However, the sights that make up Pitsunda's wealth are quite enough. Let's get acquainted with them a little closer.

Pitsunda: attractions

1. The main attraction of Pitsunda is the state reserve "Great Pitiunt" (this is the ancient name of this settlement), which has an architectural and historical status. In the exposition collections of the museum - materials about the entry of Pitiunt into the Abkhazian kingdom at the end of the VIII century AD. E. And 200 years later the city became part of the Abkhaz-Georgian state. In the 11th century it became known as Bichvinta, which is mentioned in the historical Georgian tablets.

2. Dome Cathedral of St. Andrew the First-Called, built in the beginning of the tenth century AD. E. In the temple there is an organ hall for 360 seats. On the walls of the narthex - frescoes of the XVI century brush an unknown artist. The cathedral is a cross-domed structure with three naves in plan. Under the altar is the tomb of St. John Chrysostom, Bishop of Constantinople, who died on his way to Pitsunda in 407. Later the relics of the saint were transported to Constantinople, and in the tomb a particle of the remains of the martyr is now kept.

3. Reserve of pine relict. The grove of bicentenary pine trees stretches along the coast for 4 kilometers, and the pine forest area is about 200 hectares. Coniferous aroma, mixed with sea air, can also be called a Pitsunda landmark, since such a saturated air-healing cocktail is no longer found anywhere else in the world. Doctors of local health resorts prescribe to their patients, as well as ordinary guests, long walks among the pine trees along the sea. Near the relic reserve are fertile grounds and gardens with orange and mandarin trees. Herds of cows and sheep graze on green meadows.

4. Statue of Medea, the legendary queen of Colchis, the wife of Argonaut Jason, with the assistance of which he stole the Golden Fleece. The sculpture was created by People's Artist of Georgia Merab Berdzenishvili. The sorceress Medea sits on a pedestal with her children, two infants-sons, whom she will then kill, and herself will hide herself in the chariot that Helios sent her. The composition is set on the sand near the water and is one of the most visited attractions of Pitsunda.

5. Pitsunda lighthouse. It is located near the sea, for many years sent ships on the right course. Several years ago it was closed and decommissioned, but remained as a navigation monument. The new lighthouse, equipped with modern means of warning, is installed on the roof of the highest boarding house, which received the same name. The beams of the new lighthouse cover several times the distance and are visible for many miles around.

6. The famous sculpture of Zurab Tsereteli, called "Divers", located on the waterfront, is a symbol of the resort city, one of its main attractions, emphasizing the color of the swimming season in Pitsunda, which lasts more than six months. The sculpture depicts two bathers surrounded by marine animals. Was established in 1967, and immediately caused a stream of criticism, as, indeed, any work of Tsereteli, around which spears break in endless disputes.

What you need for holidaymakers

The resort town of Pitsunda, whose attractions attract tourists to a considerable extent, is primarily a place for rest, bathing, jet skiing, diving and other entertainment of the sea range. Tourists and holidaymakers, on tours and without, go to this land on the advice of relatives or acquaintances. People want to get what they want in a well-established small resort town called Pitsunda. Sights in this case play a secondary role. And at the same time, there is nothing wrong with that, leaving the beach in the evening, vacationers will pass by the sculpture "Stone Girl" or admire the "Divers" of the same Tsereteli.

How to make a choice

Perhaps the words "Pitsunda", "rest" are for tourists who want to luxuriate on the landscaped beaches, much more important than the phrase "Pitsunda's sights", but does not exclude the other, but rather complements. In the evening, vacationers can visit bars, restaurants, gambling establishments. To the services of visitors there is much more to offer the hospitable city of Pitsunda, the map of which hangs on almost every corner, indicating directions to one or another institution. In addition, the information on how to reach the destination can be found on it.
