Pipes for water and gas: application and properties

Pipes for water and gas are related to a special kind of steel products having a cylindrical shape and manufactured according to standards on pipe-rolling mills.

They have increased resistance to mechanical stress, high performance and durability. Are able to withstand for a long time the effect of liquids and gases passing through them. Along with this, water and gas pipes have wide possibilities for welding and bending. At the same time, the price of materials is quite affordable.

Steel water and gas pipes are made of high-quality low-alloy or carbon steels. The constituent chrome, manganese and other elements give the products additional qualities - increased wear resistance, strength, and also increase their welding properties.

In addition, modern technology allows the inclusion of impurities in the composition of pipes made of high-alloy steels. The use of additional processing and application of special bituminous and polymer coatings to products increase their resistance to aggressive media. The zinc coating gives the materials even greater strength, resulting in galvanized water and gas pipes, which have a higher mass.

Pipe products are used in the construction of gas pipelines and water supply systems. They are used to create heating structures, as well as for the production of gas and waterworks.

Welded water pipes are welded with or without cut or threaded thread, with the chemical composition and mechanical properties not standardized. At the request of the customer for products with a passage more than 10 mm thread can be applied to both ends. It can be short and long.

The rest have an enhanced seam and are electrically welded. Pipes for water and gas can be dimensional (4-12 meters), multiple of the measured length (with allowances for thread) and non-dimensional.

By the accuracy of production, water and gas pipes are divided into products with ordinary and increased accuracy.

Galvanized water and gas pipe steel pipes have increased corrosion resistance. They are made by immersion in a zinc solution, while the zinc coating remains on the outer surface of the metal tube. The difference in the weight of the galvanized pipe is about three percent compared to the conventional one.

These pipes have a fixed diameter, which should be used when choosing the product. The outer diameter can vary depending on the thickness of the walls.

Pipes for water and gas are a very common building material, but they have a significant drawback - they are subject to aging. Over time, products lose their strength and elasticity. Alternatives to steel pipes are products made of polymer materials or plastic pipes. Nevertheless, at construction of industrial objects of replacement to steel pipelines yet does not exist.
