Perm State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater Tchaikovsky: repertoire, photos and reviews

In modern society, people are less likely to meet people who visit the theater at least once a year. At best, this happens every five years. Cultural education dims under the onslaught of work and everyday fuss. This approach to self-development, of course, does not paint modern society. Perhaps the reason for this omission is the reluctance of people, and perhaps the lack of theaters at the appropriate level in some regions. As for the level, Perm citizens are very lucky. And they are simply ashamed to be culturally illiterate, because in their city there is a stunning Perm Opera and Ballet Theater named after Tchaikovsky.

The main symbol of Perm

The Perm State Theater of Opera and Ballet was founded in 1870. In 1879, thanks to the donations of local residents, the first season was opened in the walls of the stone building. The architect of this construction was A. Karvovsky. A great influence on the development of the theater was rendered by the opera and ballet theater Kirov from Leningrad, evacuated in 1941-1945. Thanks to this influence, a ballet school of international level was opened in Perm. In 1954, the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater shone on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater. This was the first provincial performance in the walls of the Bolshoi. The name of Peter Ivanovich Tchaikovsky was awarded to the theater in 1965, in 1969 he was recognized as an academic. The Perm Theater of the Tchaikovsky Ballet was constantly evolving and pleased its visitors.

A new milestone in development

In 2011, the theater stepped into a new era thanks to the unorthodox artistic director Theodor Curentzis. He introduced a new principle of repertoire planning, which is based on the demonstration of the performance in separate blocks. In 2013, the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater named after Tchaikovsky broke all records, since he was nominated for the Golden Mask Award in seventeen nominations. As a result, the theater received four awards. Also in the arsenal of the Opera and Ballet Theater the chamber choir nomination from the performance "Queen of the Indians" for the Opera Awards. This performance is an example of a successful creative product. He became in 2013 a laureate of the Casta Diva Theater Award, successfully touring Spain, France and Ireland.

Interesting case

In February 1937, the play "Eugene Onegin" was played in the theater, and the famous pilot Valery Chkalov came to see it . On the stage, decorated with a lot of candles, left the heroine Tatiana Larina. The actress who performed this role was dressed in the appropriate wig. After finishing the scene, the actress leaned so low toward the candle that she picked up the flame with her wonderful wig. In this stressful situation, Chkalov did not lose his head, in one second he ran to the stage from the side bed, tore off the flaming torch from the actress's head and extinguished it. After the performance, he could not refrain from commenting and noted in the book for the guests of honor that the performance was simply wonderful.

"The Diaghilev Festival"

Every year the Perm Theater of Opera and Ballet is the organizer of the "Diaghilev Festival". Every year, the organizers try to make the event of a higher level, and also cause a resonance in the society. This festival is unique, and it is simply impossible to meet the second one. It has been held in Perm since 2003 with the aim of maintaining and developing the traditions of Russian culture associated with the name of the famous impresario, the talented Sergei Diaghilev. It differs from all other festivals in its multi-genre. At the heart of the concept of this event is the reflection in the mirror of the time of Diaghilev's Russian Seasons. The program of the "Diaghilev Festival" includes a variety of diverse productions - premieres of opera and ballet of the world level, performances of troupes with modern dances, exhibition activities, symphony concerts, as well as programs representing chamber, organ and jazz music. And of course, the unique "Diaghilev Readings", together with a retrospective of feature films.

Theater that is loved

The Perm theater is loved, they say about it, it is recommended. There is not a single visitor who is not enthusiastic about the performances in it. From the reviews you can understand that the city is simply impossible to imagine without the theater of opera and ballet. Guests appreciate the highest level of productions, exquisite interior and, of course, an excellent troupe. Residents of Perm usually visit the theater by their families. The most flattering reviews give the ballet "The Nutcracker". According to the theater's guests, on the eve of the New Year everyone should see it.

Theodore Curentis

Since January 2011, the Perm Academic Opera and Ballet Theater has acquired a new artistic director in the person of Theodor Curentzis. Experienced and talented conductor moved to Perm not alone, but together with musicians from the orchestra Musica Aeterna Ensemble. Under his guidance, Stravinsky's "Spring of the Sacred," which was recognized as the best in the world, was recorded. For this production, Kurentzis, together with the orchestra, was awarded the ECHO Klassik 2016. As you know, the repertoire of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater sets the best of the best. It is this artistic director that is the Theodore Curentis. According to Opernwelt, he is the "Conductor of the Year". This status he was awarded on the basis of the views of fifty critics from America and Europe.

Magnificent troupe

Under the guidance of Theodor Curentzis, there are artistic directors, members of the troupe, administrative staff, invited soloists and directors. The troupe is the face of any theater. Ballet troupe creates under the leadership of Vitali Dubrovin and is one of the five most famous collectives in Russia. In the arsenal of refined ballerinas - Irina Bilash, Polina Buldakova and Alexandra Surodeva - about twenty magnificent performances each, and each of them masterly performs Masha in the ballet The Nutcracker. Actors of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater - Sergei Mershin, Herman Starikov, Denis Tolmazov, Ruslan Savdenov and Nikita Chetverikov. Sergey Mershin is a veteran of the Perm theater. He was accepted into the troupe in 2000, and since then he has become the face of such performances as Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Seasons and many others.

Classics and modernity

Not only dozens of performances of various genres have been staged on the stage of the Perm Theater. Fans of the classics are encouraged to visit the ballet "Bakhchisarai Fountain". It is the reconstruction of Rostislav Zakharov's 1934 performance. The magnificent production of "The Sleeping Beauty" is a romantic story about a sleeping beauty based on the fairy tale by Charles Perrault. Also, the viewer is given the opportunity to plunge into the world of the opera and see "Prince Igor", "Madame Butterfly", "The Barber of Seville". And of course, the most famous and fascinating is the ballet "Swan Lake" with notes of the German romantic epic and the style of the British Pre-Raphaelists. The plot of the ballet in the variation of the Perm theater is slightly modified: the protagonist is Prince Siegfried, whose soul is trying to kidnap the genius of Rothbart, while in the classical ballet the main character is Princess Odette.

Past and future

The historical building of the theater requires reconstruction and will not be able to serve properly for the same amount of time. Therefore, in order to slightly relieve the burden, the management planned the construction of a new building. Presumably, this will be a modern and functional structure, created in accordance with world standards, but taking into account Russian requirements. In form, the building will resemble the letter "T", which is formed due to the fusion of the historical building of the theater and the new one. Each building will have its own stage and auditorium. But in 2015, the management decided to abandon the project of this kind, as its implementation could negatively affect the historical building of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater. Now the project of building a separate independent structure is being worked out.
