Perforated ceiling: description and types

When it comes to the question of repairing ceilings, options immediately appear very much. Ceilings can be decorated and wallpaper, and paint, and plaster, and tiles, as well as install a perforated ceiling. In home (residential) conditions, they are rarely used, but in offices or shops are much more common. Consider what perforated suspended ceilings are, how they are installed and what they are.

What it is?

Perforated ceilings, the photos of which are located below, are suspended or suspended ceilings, which are made of PVC film or aluminum. But it has one distinctive feature - small perforated holes with even edges. Holes can be round, square or any other shape, can be arranged in a certain order or chaotically, it all depends on the material and desire. Colors are also varied: from monochrome white to rainbow or films with drawings - it all depends on the customer's desire and the capabilities of the manufacturer.

Perforated ceilings also differ in that they "breathe" and allow you to install lighting not only in the usual way - on top of the film, but also behind it, directly on the surface of the ceiling base. This method makes the room more interesting and modern, but we'll talk about it later.

More about the views

Perforated ceilings are divided into species according to the following principle:

1. By the installation method:

  • suspension;
  • Tension.

2. By the type of material from which the ceiling is made:

  • aluminum;
  • From PVC-film.

The first two types will be considered in the following sections of the article. Here we will tell you more about the materials.

Aluminum perforated ceiling is often found in office buildings or shops. It is made of dense aluminum in the form of square, rectangular or other shaped panels. It is attached using racks. The advantage of such ceilings is that they do not rust, do not tear, they are easier to wipe and change if necessary individual components. One of the most popular in this category is the perforated ceiling Armstrong. This type of ceiling consists of square aluminum panels, which are fixed in a certain order.

Ceilings from PVC-film (PVC - is polyvinyl chloride), elastic, heat-resistant, moisture resistant. They are more difficult to take care of, but you can experiment with them more often and more effectively than with aluminum ones. The film can be pulled into a room of any shape, whereas with metal ceilings it will be more difficult.

How to install suspended ceilings?

Installation of any kind of tension / suspended ceilings is better to entrust to professional masters, but if you still decide to do it yourself, then you need to follow the instructions to make it work properly and beautifully.

The first step in installing a stretch ceiling will be marking the perimeter of the walls. To do this, you need to determine the bottom corner of the room (you need a hydro level) and retreat a few centimeters from it, put a mark. All other marks do on the level with the first. Further, the walls of the corners of the room are measured and the profile rails fixed. Joints of racks need to be glued and reinforced with dowels or self-tapping screws. After that, it is necessary to warm up the room to 40 ° C and above (heat-gun or fan heater will help), so that the elasticity of the film is better. And now you can proceed to stretch the ceiling itself. Perforated suspended ceiling made of PVC film must be fixed from the base angle, which is marked on the film, then the one that is opposite diagonally, then the rest. The sides are attached after the corners are secured.

How to install suspended ceilings?

Perforated rack ceiling must be started also in the previous case - first you need to make marks on which we will fix the slats for ceiling installation. The first is to establish a corner profile along the entire perimeter of the room. It is attached using dowel-nails.

The next stage is the installation of load-bearing rails. If it is necessary to fasten the racks to each other, they are fixed with locks that they have. Together with the distribution of carrying rails, suspensions are placed. They attach the rail to the ceiling. When installing them, you must observe the correct distances between them, which can be found on the Internet or learn from the masters. It is then necessary to adjust the length of the suspension by means of a spring.

The penultimate step is the mounting of the rails. Here you need to install the light, for this you need to leave the installation of the frame indentation from the ceiling of about 10 cm. Once everything is installed, you can lay the plate. If you want to paint them, you need to do this in advance.

Ceilings in the interior

Perforated ceilings, both of PVC film, and aluminum, are a very modern element of the interior in any room, both flat and office. In the apartment, he creates coziness thanks to the right color or pattern, suitable for the overall stylistics of the apartment, and also due to diffuse lighting.

In the office, a perforated ceiling adds an even more business style to the room, making it at the same time modern. At the same time, diffuse lighting makes the office even more attractive and does not deprive any employee of the light.

Lighting Features

When installing perforated ceilings, there are several features that need to be considered when choosing lighting:

  1. If the apartment has a standard ceiling height (2.4-2.6 m), then it is not necessary to take bulky and long chandeliers, because they will hang too low, and high family members or guests will often hit it with their head, or even with the usual Its growth can be accidentally knocked up by hands. In addition, with such chandeliers, the ceiling will seem even lower than it really is, which does not benefit the interior of the room.
  2. It is best to take flat lamps ("plates" or just with a small height), they will look good and not "eat" space.
  3. You can even make the built-in lighting with halogen bulbs. They are small, but when installed on the principle of 1 bulb for 2 square meters. M light will be quite a lot. And they look very stylish. There is also such an option as the "starry sky".
  4. Also, perforated ceilings make it possible to make an internal illumination, in which the light sources are installed behind the ceiling sheet, and the light penetrates through the holes. In this case, changing the lighting is difficult, but lighting with the correct choice of lamps will be pleasant.
  5. Both suspended and suspended ceilings can be identified with LED strips. It looks very nice, if you correctly combine the color of the ceiling and light. It is often installed as additional lighting.

Advantages and disadvantages

Perforated ceilings have their advantages, several of which have already been mentioned:

  • practicality;
  • Versatility (can be used in any room);
  • Strength (can withstand up to 100 kg of weight per 1 sq. M.);
  • Plasticity (in PVC ceilings);
  • durability;
  • Ecological compatibility;
  • The opportunity to embody the designer's unusual ideas;
  • Free air exchange in the room;
  • Sound absorption (therefore often installed in large rooms, since the echo effect decreases);
  • Do not absorb odors;
  • The possibility of creating original lighting.

But at the same time there are some shortcomings that still do not cover the merits:

  • Complexity in the installation.
  • "Eating" the height of the room (sometimes, even have to change furniture after installing such ceilings, because it is above the desired level).
  • The impossibility to disassemble the stretch ceiling in a particular place, and with frequent dismantling, the reinforcing bars get deformed and in the end they can cease to hold the ceiling, and they will have to be changed.
  • Difficulty in care, since dust accumulates on them, which must be periodically wiped.

How to care for the ceilings, we will tell further.

Care of ceilings

Perforated ceilings need periodic cleaning from dust, especially if the ventilation systems are located behind the canvas. It is carried out using a conventional liquid for washing windows. Use brushes with coarse pile and the like are not worth it, as well as liquids containing acids and alkalis.
