Pansinusitis - what is it? Causes and optimal methods of treatment

There are several common diseases with relatively similar symptoms: sinusitis (including sinusitis), pansinusitis and influenza. Although among the listed least common pansinusitis, you need to clearly understand the causes and symptoms of this ailment, in an emergency, to distinguish it from other diseases.

Nasal sinuses, sinusitis and pansinusitis. What it is?

Nasal sinuses are air-filled cavities located above, below and behind the eyes. They are all connected to the nasal cavity and are also called sinuses. Distinguish between sinuses of the latticed bone, maxillary, frontal and sphenoid. These sinuses are arranged in pairs.

Maxillary cavities are under the cheekbones, frontal - above the eyes in the forehead, wedge - in the wedge-shaped bones, respectively , and the sinuses of the latticed bone represent an empty space between the nasal bone and the eyes.

Sinusitis is inflammation and irritation in one or more sinuses. The disease is considered quite common, the pansinusitis is much less common. What it is? It is inflammation and irritation at the same time in all nasal sinuses. Pansinusitis is a serious condition requiring immediate treatment.

Causes

Usually, pansinusitis develops as a result of bacterial, viral or fungal infections or allergies. All nasal sinuses simultaneously become infected and become inflamed due to a strong decrease in immunity. This condition is called "acute pansinusitis", but in some cases the disease can become chronic. Inflammation in the latter case lasts for several months and even years, if you do not take any measures to treat the disease.

Pathogenic microorganisms causing the disease penetrate into the sinuses through the nose. Pansinusitis is often preceded by an infection of the upper respiratory tract. In addition, the cause of infection can be:

  • Bathing in dirty water;
  • The spread of infection due to pericoronitis;
  • Irritation of the sinuses due to exposure to dust, air pollution, tobacco smoking, etc.

Chronic pansinusit often occurs due to curvature of the nasal septum or the appearance of polyps.

Symptoms

Since the disease is a common sinusitis that has spread to all nasal sinuses, the symptoms of both ailments are approximately the same. These include:

  • Increased body temperature;
  • headache;
  • Thick discharge from the nose of yellow and / or green;
  • nasal congestion;
  • Swelling of the face;
  • cough;
  • toothache;
  • Ear ache;
  • a sore throat;
  • Feeling tired;
  • Bad breath.

Pain and discomfort caused by pansinusitis are much more intense than with inflammation of one sinus.

The disease is complicated if the infection spreads to the brain because of its anatomical proximity to the paranasal sinuses.

Treatment

Acute pansinusit can not be underestimated - it is necessary to begin treatment of the disease in the shortest possible time after the discovery of the first symptoms. To make an accurate diagnosis, the doctor will prescribe a number of studies, including X-ray imaging using computed tomography, MRI or radiography of the nasal sinuses. Detection and detection of a pathogenic microorganism will help a specialist to prescribe the optimal antibiotic drugs.

Recurrent pansinusitis - what is it? This is a chronic disease caused by a polyp in the nasal region or a curvature of the nasal septum. Treatment in this case involves a surgical operation, in which the polyp is removed or the shape of the septum is corrected. The purpose of the operation is to restore the normal outflow of mucus from the paranasal sinuses.

When a doctor diagnoses pansinusitis, treatment with prescribed medications is often supplemented with the following recommendations.

  1. With inflammation of the nasal sinuses it is harmful to stay in cold rooms with dry air for a long time.
  2. Keep the house moist at 40-50%, especially in the bedroom.
  3. In acute pansinusit it is necessary to avoid swimming and traveling by air.

Home remedies

Since the disease in question is much more serious than ordinary sinusitis, in the first place it must be treated with antibiotics or antifungal drugs. Nevertheless, along with traditional treatment, you can use some of the domestic methods to combat the disease

  1. Steam inhalations are an effective way to relieve sinus congestion. Steam contributes to the outflow of thick mucus from the inflamed cavities.
  2. It is important to monitor the increase in immunity. You should eat as much as possible a variety of fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods, rich in vitamins and essential nutrients.
  3. It is necessary to drink plenty of water, as it dilutes the mucus. Hot herbal teas are also useful.
  4. Washing the nose with saline effectively helps to treat pansinusitis. What it is? This is a saline solution, which can be purchased at the pharmacy or cooked at home: it is enough to dilute a quarter of a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water.
