Before embarking on landing, it is necessary to learn a little about the specifics of their cultivation. First of all, it is important to know when to plant watermelons. It will depend on this whether you will get a harvest this year. So, if you are going to plant the seeds under a film, then you can start work from the beginning of May: the main thing is to be sure that it will be warm in the street. Landing in the open ground, without any shelter, is not until mid-May. If the weather forecast promises a cooling, it is better to cover young shoots: a film or plastic bottles are suitable for this purpose.

Having found out when to plant watermelons, their seeds must be prepared beforehand. By the way, do not take them from purchased copies, even if the acquired berries you liked, this does not mean that the seeds will be good. It is better to buy them in specialized nurseries or ask neighbors who have been growing watermelons for more than one year . And if you and your neighbors are on good terms, you can agree that you will simply "steal" their favorite copy from them. In the people it is believed that the harvest in this case will be many times better.

Before you start working, soak the seeds you have, pre-scalded with hot water in a colander - this will help them "wake up". Then wrap them in wet rags and make sure that they always remain wet. As soon as the seeds germinate (and this usually takes only a couple of days) - proceed to planting. If it turned out that you did not calculate the time when planting watermelons and when the seeds are ready for this, then simply put them in the refrigerator. This will help to significantly slow down the growth and das possibility to wait for the planting terms.

In the cooler regions, it is recommended that the seeds be planted not in the open land for harvesting, but in special nutrient pots they should grow seedlings. In them, the seeds are about a month and only then move to the open ground. Knowing when it is better to plant seedlings, you can get a good harvest, even in areas not suitable for their cultivation. The main thing is that the temperature there is not below 20 0 C, otherwise it can only be done only in the greenhouse.

In any case, if you live not in the south, where the hot weather keeps from May to September, then it is better to choose early ripening varieties, which can be harvested after 2, maximum 2.5, months, after the appearance of the first shoots. Of course, in any region there are its terms when planting watermelons, and how to do it, but in the south there are more opportunities for growing different varieties.
