Since 1979, it was transferred to long-term lease by the Soviet, and then the Russian Air Force. And only since 2002, when this agreement was exhausted, the base was reconstructed for the reception of civil passengers arriving at the resort of Nha Trang. Cam Ran Airport was granted international status in 2009.
