New wind generator generates electricity without rotating blades

Wind generators have become quite widespread in various countries, but so far their successful work is too dependent on external factors independent of human beings. For example, suddenly there will be a complete calm, and what, without light, will sit? And the Spanish company Vortex Bladeless showed a completely non-standard approach to this issue. According to one of the founders of the company David Suriol, their generator is able to generate electricity without blades and other rotating elements of the structure.

Principle

The new wind turbine flies elegantly in the wind. "It looks like an asparagus," David notes with some humor. The basis of the work is the principle of the formation of a vortex when the wind is obstructed by obstacles.

Any object placed in the path of the airflow creates a wavy turbulence behind itself. The whole science, called aerodynamics, is devoted to combating this phenomenon, which hinders the movement of airplanes, cars and other types of equipment, which require a special approach to the streamlining of the form. The wind can even cause the destruction of the bridge. And then the Spanish engineers decided to put turbulence in the service of energy.

Construction and materials

A thin cone-shaped turbine is made of carbon fiberglass. The machine that converts the mechanical vibrations of the system into electricity is not located from above (as in traditional turbines), but below, so much strength is achieved. The design guarantees synchronization of the vortex processes occurring in the cone, which is necessary for optimal efficiency. In the design there is also an annular magnet (at the base of the oscillation system), supporting uniform rotation (this is the only element that rotates) regardless of the wind speed.

Benefits

Plus the system has more than enough. It is inexpensive in production, unpretentious and cheap in maintenance (there are no friction parts and even no lubrication is needed). Blades that scare away birds are absent, there is no noise. If wind turbines need smooth, laminar airflows, for which they have to be raised high, the Vortex oscillating system is completely uncritical to either uniformity or to wind fluctuations. According to the authors of the project, it's all about magnets, but they still do not disclose their secret completely.

There is a vortex generator and criticism, which reminds that in the 80 years of work on similar systems have already been conducted, but the success was unsuccessful because of the unpredictability of the circulating oscillatory processes. Then, it was not possible to achieve sustainable electricity generation, but Vortex engineers insist that they did it all, at least in the wind tunnel, and in the open air too. Wait and see.
