The European territory of Russia is mainly occupied by the Russian (East European) plain. In the east, its border is the Ural Mountains, which in olden times were called "the stone belt of the Russian land." These middle-altitude mountains are known to the majority according to Bazhov's tales and mineral deposits. The famous Ilmensky Reserve is the only one in the world, created to protect the mineral wealth of the Urals.
Ural is a popular tourist destination. Travelers strive to conquer the peaks, visit the famous caves - Kapova and Kungur, there are mountain-skiing bases.

And the coast of the warm Black Sea is famous for its excellent conditions for the development of the resort, because the mountain ranges protect it from the cold northern air masses. The city of Sochi is known as the venue for the Winter Olympic Games.

The Far East is home to the youngest, actively growing mountains of Russia. The list of them begins with the volcanic mountains of Kamchatka, led by Klyuchevskaya Sopka. This is the highest of the active volcanoes of Eurasia continent. The peninsula of Kamchatka is a region of active movements of the earth's crust, so volcanic eruptions and earthquakes are not so rare here. And among the mountains of Kamchatka lies a unique object - the Valley of Geysers.
Sikhote-Alin is a mountain system in Primorye. It is known for the combination of northern and southern species of flora and fauna. Here there is a reserve, in which rare species of animals are protected. This is the famous Amur tiger and the Far Eastern leopard, whose number is less than fifty individuals.
