Monument of Victory in Moscow - a memory for children about the heroism of their ancestors

The huge and majestic Victory Monument in Moscow is located on Poklonnaya Hill. This memorial complex is dedicated to the victory in the war of 1941-1945. He appeared not so long ago. It was opened on May 9, 1995, when they celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Second World War. The article suggests to learn about the hill on which the memorial is located, about the monument itself, as well as some information concerning the ensemble.

The Mountain of Bows

There is a Victory monument on Poklonnaya Hill. Once this place did not belong to the territory of the city. Moscow is the capital of Russia, which is growing and developing together with our state. Today, this elevation is in the historical center of the Golden-domed. Poklonnaya Hill was surrounded by two rivers under the bizarre names of Filka and Setun.

In distant times, when the mountain was outside the city, travelers often stopped at this place, since from the top the guests of the city opened a beautiful view. The guests of the capital came out of their wagons, inspected the city from a height, then bowed low to the ground. So the mountain got its name.

Historical facts

This elevation was first mentioned in the documents of the 16th century. Then its name was a little longer. To "Poklonnaya Hill" was added the name of the tract on which it is located. In the end, this name looked like this: "Poklonnaya Hill on the Smolensk road."

Surprisingly, 200 years ago, Napoleon stood on this mountain. But not to make a bow. The French commander in 1812 was waiting for the keys to the capital.

This was once raised by M. I. Kutuzov after the Battle of Borodino. And after another 50 years, during the Great Patriotic War, our army through this place moved to the front to defend the country's borders and fight the fascist army. In other words, the Victory Monument on the mountain symbolizes the valiant feat of our people.

And what's on the hill today?

Nowadays Poklonnaya Gora is a huge architectural and memorial complex, but it is crowded not only on holidays. Walking near the memorial is committed not only by Muscovites, but also by the guests of the city. At present the area of the park is 135 hectares. Of these, 20 hectares are occupied by the ensemble of the monument.

Already in 1942 it was decided that the Victory Monument would be located exactly in this place.

Later, in 1958, the builders of the city erected a memorial sign on which it was written that a monument would be erected in honor of the victory of the Soviet people over the fascists.

Part of the funds for the erection of the memorial was allocated by the city treasury, and the second amount is donations from citizens and guests of the city. The Victory Monument is surrounded by a museum dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, three churches, an obelisk (the highest in Russia), and an exhibition of military equipment.

A symbolic obelisk

Strict and majestic is the Victory Monument. Moscow - the record holder for high-altitude monuments. The obelisk stands on Pobediteley Square. It is considered the highest monument in Russia. Its height is symbolic - 141.8 meters. This is a kind of reference to the war, after all, 1 418 days lasted the Great Patriotic War. The stela is the main part of the monument. It was made of high-strength metal. To mount the structure, I had to resort to telescopic aerial platforms. At the base of the obelisk are control rooms, which monitor the lighting and ventilation of the monument. At the foot of the stela there is a statue of George the Victorious on the granite, who dealt with the serpent - the symbol of evil. The weight of this whole structure is about 1000 tons!

The foundation of the highest statue of Russia required 2,000 cubic meters of concrete. At an altitude of 100 meters the obelisk is crowned with a statue of the goddess of the Victory, Nicky with small cupids. Their weight is 25 tons. The obelisk got its name - "Bayonet", because it symbolizes this cold weapon.

From the base to the mark of 100 meters, where Nika is, three main phases of the war are depicted:

  • The Battle of Stalingrad.
  • The Battle of Kursk.
  • The Belarusian operation.

To serve such a stele, the city authorities had to install an elevator, which was ordered in Sweden. He raises the masters to a height of 87 meters. How long do you think it took to build an obelisk? Surprisingly, it was built in record time - 9 months. The architect of two sculptures ("Bayonet" and "George the Victorious") is Zurab Tsereteli.

Confrontations and fluctuations

Whatever it was, but such a massive and tall statue without special devices should not have survived. Engineers of the project SS Karmilov, BV Ostroumov and SP Murinov foreseen this. They equipped the obelisk with devices that extinguish vibrations, because it has an unstable shape in all aerodynamic laws. Engineers concealed in it 19 vibration dampers. The main one was hidden behind Nicky's shoulders, it extinguishes fluctuations of 10 tons!

If you ever will be in Moscow, then be sure to visit the Victory Monument. Moscow is allegedly guarded by the standing three warriors of different centuries of our state:

  • Slavic soldiers;
  • Soldiers of the battle of Borodino;
  • Soviet fighters, the winners of 1945.

The monument is famous far beyond the borders of the country. The feat of the people is glorious, as is the Victory Monument. Photo must be done and show it to your children, so that they know the history and remember the feat of their ancestors!
