Metalists (subculture): the history of appearance, features

The word "metalist" exists only in Russian. In former times used the expression "tinsmith", and it meant an ordinary person who works in the field of metallurgy. And only in the late eighties of the last century people began to use the word "metal player" in our country, referring to fans of "heavy" music.

Where did the term come from

Where did this term come from? When did they begin to use it in this sense? He was first pronounced by a man who in no way had anything to do with music and everything connected with it.

The phrase heavy metal (in translation from English - "heavy metal") was sounded in the novel "Naked breakfast". It was written in 1959. William Burroughs in his book described loud and hard music, with aggressive and assertive notes. However, at that time the term was not widely used.

By the way, I want to add a few words about the "heavy" metal. It first appeared in the sixties. This style is a mixture of psychedelic music and blues rock. Meanwhile, he lost his blues direction fast enough. More and more loud and powerful sounds began to appear in it.

Where did the metal people come from?

Metalworkers are a youth subculture. Her inspiration is music.

It is most common in northern European countries, slightly less - in America, there are many metalworkers living in the southern European countries. Meanwhile, the Middle East does not want to accept this subculture. There, its representatives are persecuted. Meet them and other non-formals can only be in Turkey and Israel.

So, who are these metal players? Subculture, whose history began in the last century, is quite unusual. By the way, in English there are analogues of the word "metal". There they are called crazy on metal, metalhead (metalhead). And such derivatives exist in almost every language - they are formed from the word "metal", connected with specific prefixes.

Main differences

What are the most different from other non-metallers metalworkers? Subculture, whatever it is, most often has a certain clear worldview. Metalwork does not have it.

All the texts of the groups working in this style speak of independence, confidence and independence. Many metalworkers from the 80's and 90's made a cult from the person's personality. Very often there are calls to destruction in the songs. But do not think that the metalworkers are calling for the complete destruction of everything around. The main idea is to destroy the old and build something better, new.

It is worth noting that not all collectives are fond of this topic. Metalworkers - a subculture is very ambiguous. Often their songs say that it is necessary to be able to be tolerant, to sympathize with one's neighbor, to adhere to the basic moral norms of behavior.

Many of the representatives of this subculture are very educated people. Most of them are fond of mysticism, fantastic literature, mythology, etc. Many of them play beautifully on musical instruments, most often on guitar. Teenagers create their own musical groups.

There are many differences between metalworkers. Subculture, the signs of which are easy to see, attracts many. At the concerts of their favorite musical groups, fans often sing loudly, jump high, wiggle their hair, shake their heads, push, etc. Constantly in the crowd one can see a "goat" thrown upwards, which is a characteristic gesture common to all metalworkers. They raise their fists, leaving their index finger and little finger straight.

Features of the subculture in Russia and the Soviet Union

Soviet representatives are metalworkers of the 80s. It was in these years and in Leningrad, and in Moscow, and in some large cities, representatives of this subculture first appeared. Their appearance did not correspond to the Soviet ideology, and they were constantly persecuted. They were pursued not only by representatives of law enforcement bodies, but also by various groups.

It was impossible to legally get records on which the compositions of foreign performers were recorded. All the attributes were made independently. Meanwhile, despite all the difficulties, the popularity of this trend has not weakened. And then the first metal performers begin to appear in the capital. Subculture is now represented by groups such as "Black Coffee", "Legion", "Metal Corrosion", "Aria" and others.

The most popular musical direction is "heavy metal" in the Soviet Union acquired in the late eighties. The most striking event is the holding of a rock festival in Luzhniki in 1989. Then he was even invited to foreign artists. And already in 1991 the legendary musical group Metallika visited the capital.

The first mode

How do modern metal people dress? Subculture (photo above) assumes the predominance of black. For many people, the image of a metal worker is inextricably linked to a leather jacket-a "scoop", adorned with a huge number of chains and rivets.

It is worth noting that this style has become fashionable thanks to one particular person. Rob Halford, the vocalist of the famous band Judas Priest, first appeared on stage in black clothes with metal ornaments and the same color cap in 1978. For a long time his style remained unchanged. Also Rob decorated himself with a huge number of spikes and wore a collar.

"Metallic" style today

Modern metal workers often wear hoodies and T-shirts, which show logos or photos of their idols. They prefer jeans, army pants, leather jackets with rivets or stripes, vests, long raincoats, heavy shoes, etc. Boys often grow long hair and beards.

Representatives of the fair sex wear t-shirts, leather skirts or pants, high boots, dark pantyhose and tights. They brightly paint, focusing on the lips and eyes.

Favorite metalwork accessories - heavy medallions and bracelets, chains, gloves without fingers (like motorcyclists), bandanas, collars and wristbands with spikes.

Some representatives of this subculture like to put a corpsepaint on their face. This is a specific make-up, which is dominated by black and white colors. A white shade covers the entire face of a person, and black is set off by the lips and eye hollows. Such a coloring gives the living person the features of a dead person.

Meanwhile, not all representatives of this subculture want to follow such a dress code. Despite their love for this style of music, they continue to dress like most ordinary people.
