The agent "Diabeton" instructions for use refers to the group of oral hypoglycemic drugs, derivatives of sulfonylureas. Unlike other similar drugs, the drug includes an N-containing heterocyclic ring with an endocyclic linkage. The active ingredient is gliclazide.

Medication "Diabeton" helps to reduce the concentration in the blood of glucose and stimulates the production of insulin in beta cells in the islets of Langerhans.

The drug has hemovascular effects. The active substance of the drug reduces the likelihood of thrombosis in small vessels, affecting the mechanisms that cause complications in diabetes mellitus. There is a partial inhibition of adhesion and aggregation of platelets, a decrease in the concentration of factors that promote platelet activation. Along with this, the active component of the preparation "Diabeton" influences the restoration of fibrinolytic (ability to dissolve thrombus) activity in the vascular endothelium and the activity of the activator of plasminogen.

After admission to the gastrointestinal tract, the drug is rapidly absorbed. The concentration of the active ingredient in the blood increases progressively. Eating does not affect the level of absorption.

Diabetes treatment is recommended for diabetes mellitus type II with insufficient effectiveness of diet therapy, weight loss and physical exertion. The drug is indicated for the prevention of a number of complications. Taking medication reduces the risk of microvascular (retinopathy, nephropathy) and macrovascular (stroke, infarct) consequences for type 2 diabetes.

Medication "Diabeton" instructions for use allows for appointment only to adult patients. The dosage prescribed by a specialist is taken orally, once a day. It is desirable to combine the pill with breakfast.

The initial dosage of the drug "Diabeton" is 30 milligrams. Do not chew or crush the drug. Subsequently, in accordance with the patient's condition, it is allowed to prescribe a dose of a medicine "Diabeton" 60-120 milligrams.

If one or more doses are missed, do not use higher dosages of the drug. Do not take more than 120 milligrams a day.

If there is adequate glycemic control, the "Diabetes" medication instruction in the amount of thirty milligrams is allowed to be used as maintenance therapy. With inadequate control, the dosage of medication per day can be gradually increased to sixty, ninety or one hundred and twenty milligrams a day. At the same time, the increase in the amount of the drug taken is carried out not earlier than one month after the start of treatment at the dose prescribed earlier. An exception can only be made for those patients who have not had a decrease in blood glucose after two weeks from the start of therapy. In this case, the dosage may be increased after fourteen days.

When taking medication, probably the development of side effects. With irregular reception or skipping of food intake, "Diabeton" can provoke hypoglycemia. At the same time there is a disorder of sleep, increased fatigue, a strong feeling of hunger, vomiting or nausea, headache. In some cases, depression, tremors, dizziness, respiratory disorders, seizures, bradycardia may occur.

Side effects include increased sweating, tachycardia, angina pectoris, arrhythmia, arterial hypertension. As practice shows, these signs of hypoglycemia are eliminated by taking carbohydrates. In this case, sugar is recommended, and not sugar substitutes.

In some cases, taking Diabeton can cause constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and abdominal pain. To prevent these phenomena, it is recommended to take the medicine during breakfast.
