Matt Groening: Biography

The future animator was born on February 15, 1954 in Portland. Matt Groening (photo can be seen above) lived in a large family with five children (he himself was the third child). Father Homer Groning worked as a director and scriptwriter, Margaret Groning's mother was a teacher.

He studied Matt at the Evergreen State College (Olympia, Washington). Already there for the first time his talents for drawing were shown. Matt was the chief editor at a local university newspaper and sometimes painted illustrations, mini-comics.

In order to study literature, Matt Groening moved to Los Angeles (1977). In order to feed himself, he had to work very hard. For three years, spent in Los Angeles, Matt managed to get into the shoes of a courier, a journalist, a chauffeur and even a seller of records. In his spare time, the animator tried to develop his skills by drawing comics. Several works of Groening were published in newspapers and magazines. Thanks to this in 1982, the future animator was entrusted to lead a column about rock and roll in the newspaper Los Angeles Reader. But due to the fact that in his articles Matt often wrote about his own childhood and life, Groening was removed.

In that same Los Angeles Reader, Matthew met his future wife - Deborah Kaplan. She helped publish one of Groening's first successful works under the title "Love is Hell." This work was a fairly voluminous book of comics. Toward the end of the 1980s, Matt illustrated and painted advertising brochures, posters for Apple.

But the turning point in the life of Groening occurred in 1985, when the promising artist interested producer James Brooks. It was he who suggested that Matthew work as a multiplier, which he willingly agreed to. So the story of the legendary animated series began.

"The Simpsons"

Matt Groening was supposed to draw short, entertaining sketches for a popular TV show called The Tracey Ullman Show. It was then that from the artist's pen came the Simpson family. Short films were enjoyed by many spectators, so in 1987 appeared the first full-length thirty-minute series of the animated series.

As it was possible to read above, Matthew often uses autobiographical moments in his work. The animated series "The Simpsons" was no exception. So, the characters Marge and Homer were named after the multiplier parents, and Patty, Maggie and Lisa got their names in honor of Matt's sisters.

Over the next 30 years, the series enjoyed such popularity that in 2007 it was even released a feature film called "The Simpsons in Cinema."

"Futurama"

The animated series Futurama is another less successful child, Matthew. All the actions take place in the year 300, and the cartoon tells about the team "Interplanetary Express", which deals with the delivery of cargo throughout the galaxy. The product was created in collaboration with David Cohen (popular TV script writer) and appeared on the Fox channel from 1999 to 2003. A couple of years after the official closing of the series, 4 full-lengths were released, which were later broken into 16 series. And in 2010, thanks to the support of the Comedy Central channel, a new season of the animated series was released. But, unfortunately, all attempts to revive the "Futurama" were in vain, since the representatives of Comedy Central refused to renew the contract. As a result, at the moment there are only 8 seasons of this animated series.
