Makarovsky St. John the Theological Monastery: description, history

Makarovsky St. John the Theological Monastery is located in the village of Makarovka. The town is five kilometers away from Saransk.

History

The construction of the temple complex was started in the XVIII century. The place of erection was the estate of Polyansky - known at that time landlords. The first in 1702 was built a church consecrated in honor of the Archangel Michael, later the church of St. John the Theologian was built , and only in 1730 the bell tower was finished.

The second half of the 18th century was marked by the fact that the St. John the Theologian Makarov Monastery significantly expanded its borders. Here there were almshouses for men and women, a house of owners, utility rooms, a cattle yard and a whole park with ponds. 1800-th became the year of construction of the church in honor of the Sign of Our Lady.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Makarovsky St. John the Theological Monastery was destroyed in some places. But soon, in 1969, all this was restored. The monastery was founded in 1994. Later on its territory built housing for monks and a refectory. In 2010, 9 wooden temple buildings were built, a center for pilgrims in three floors, several churches and a temple in honor of Alexander Nevsky.

Architecture

The St. John the Theologian Makarov Monastery (Saransk) is a monument of federal significance. The complex itself combines architectural trends of the XVII century, rational decisions of the XVIII century and the Baroque style. The pogost is a completely symmetrical pentagon. In the center of it stands the St. John the Theological Church. Around Znamensky temple and the Arkhangelsk church are built. There is a belfry, and in the corners there are small turrets.

Makarov's Ioanno-Bogoslovsky monastery, more precisely, its main structure was designed as a quadrangle with a tent and a command post. It can be argued that this is one of the oldest structures in Mordovia. From the outside, the monastery has a luxurious decoration. Its facades are made of 9 varieties of bricks. The decoration itself is made in the style of Russian baroque.

Temple buildings of the Far desert are represented by the abode of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, a temple consecrated in honor of Antony and Theodosius of the Caves, the Church of Alexander Nevsky and the Temple of Modest of Jerusalem.

Source of St. Nicholas

Located on the territory of the St. John the Theological Monastery, the source is famous for the whole of Mordovia. The source originates from the St. Nicholas monastery, built on a hill. From all over Saransk, a large number of people come here to heal the soul and body.

The water in the spring is saturated with ions of silver and is inspired by the prayers of monks. In his waters, the elder Feofan, the rector of the St. John the Theological Monastery, was washing himself. All the monks appealed to God near this source, thereby sanctifying him.

Gate bell tower

The height of the bell tower reaches 36 m. It consists of 4 tiers, topped with a tent - octagon and an onion. The facade of the bell tower is somewhat simplified, which indicates that it was erected during the transition period. During the construction, elements of the architecture of the XVII century, such as the curb, small towns, tent, shelves were used. From the elements of the Petrine Baroque, you can distinguish platbands and complex pilasters.

The St. John the Theological Monastery invites everyone who wants to feel holiness and to approach the Lord. A beautiful hotel for 100 people is built on its territory. The hotel is located in a picturesque place, in a park area. The building of the hotel was built relatively recently. There are rooms and economy class rooms, and more comfortable apartments.

For family thought out special two-room numbers for those who came with children. Disabled persons can also comfortably stay in a specialized apartment on the ground floor. The hotel has a house church of St. Alexander Nevsky.

Pilgrims can eat at the monastery buffet and in the refectory. Every evening after the service, pilgrims are fed for free.

Also, the Makarovsky Ioanno-Bogoslovsky Monastery is famous for its missionary activity. Father Luka, a resident of the monastery, regularly holds consultations in one of Saransk's maternity homes. At the center, there is an office for psychological and spiritual help. Here, women are helped to experience all the hardships of pregnancy, especially if it does not flow very well. Thanks to the efforts of Father Luke, many women abandoned abortions and even turned their lives toward God.

The monastery is truly a unique spiritual monument of Mordovia. His influence on the consciousness of people is incredibly great. Within its walls there is a special grace, for which many pilgrims come here.
