Magnetic locks - reliability in convenience

Magnetic locks have recently gained great popularity, although they entered the market of household security systems quite recently. It's no wonder that the demand for locks of this type increases with time, because this is a modern type of equipment that surpasses conventional, traditional locks not only in aesthetic terms, but also in terms of ease of use: they are easily replaceable, easy to use, and the most important and A nice feature is that they are absolutely noiseless. What provides a combination of all these advantages? First of all, of course, the design of the magnetic lock. A distinctive feature of its mechanism of action is that it does not contain a core, with which conventional doors are closed to the key. From the name of the lock it is clear that this is a device for locking the door, based on the principles of magnetic interaction of particles. Well, just entertaining physics at home!

Mechanism of action

To make it easier to understand the mechanism of the action of inter-room magnetic locks, let's consider the most primitive of them, which is called "passive" due to its ease of use. It consists of a pair of components: a magnet and a metal interlayer. The magnet is located in the lock, and the metal layer is in the door leaf. That is, when the door is closed, the magnet draws to itself a layer of metal, thereby holding the door in this position for as long as you want until it is opened. In order to open such a door, it is necessary to apply a mechanical force. "Passive locks" are almost not installed in the door, most often inserted into the doors of cabinets, sideboards. As for the interior doors, they differ in the presence of a handle. This greatly facilitates their use, because you will not have to apply any effort. When the handle turns when trying to open the door , the magnet in the lock and the metal bar change their position relative to each other. After that, the doors are no longer closed and you can enter the room easily and at ease.

When the magnetic lock fails

In case you want to close the door securely, so that one turn of the handle to open it is not enough, electromagnetic locks are suitable. The construction of such locks is more difficult, since the work of the electromagnetic field is involved here. The lock is constantly supplied with powerful electrical energy, therefore, as soon as there is a lack of regular electricity supply, the doors are unlocked and no longer provide security and safety of the property. Of course, the task is much easier for those locks, which have as part of its design an additional battery or battery. The battery will help keep the doors closed for a while in the absence of electricity. The two main components of the electromagnetic lock are a plate made of metal, as in simple magnetic locks and an electromagnet. The magnet is inserted into the door frame. The electromagnetic field, created by the supply of electricity to the magnet, attracts the plate. After that, the doors are closed. Doors open with the help of an additional device. As a rule, such a device is a button. There are many manufacturers of electromagnetic locks, therefore, depending on the model, locks have different capacities. Doors with electromagnetic locks are capable of withstanding loads from a hundred kilograms to a ton.
