Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva - the wife of Alexander Blok. Biography, memories

Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleyeva went down in history not only as the daughter of an outstanding chemist, but also as the wife of one of the greatest Russian poets. Her life was filled with various interesting facts, and in addition to her lawful husband - Alexander Blok, she was not deprived of attention and other, no less famous men.

Paradoxically, the daughter of Dmitri Mendeleyev had a completely unpretentious appearance. Judging by the surviving photo and the recollections of eyewitnesses, the woman was rude and had a slightly squat figure. The legendary poetess and girlfriend of the Bloc - Anna Akhmatova, spoke of the poet's wife very unpleasantly, hinting that she was rather stupid. In any case, Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva, whose memories are very ambiguous, is recognized as the main muse of the great Blok, and therefore her person deserves our attention.

The history of childhood

Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva was born and grew up in a large family. Her father, Dmitry Mendeleyev, had six children. From his first marriage he already had a daughter, Olga and son Vladimir. Lyuba was born in the second marriage of a scientist - with Anna Popova. In addition to her, the family had a sister Mary and two brothers - Ivan and Vasily. Many who have studied the biography of the scientist know that the fate of the Loved Father, like that of many ingenious people, was not easy. It was quite complex. After he was in forced university retirement, Mendeleyev together with his family spent most of the time in the estate, which was located in Boblovo.

Despite the fact that in the family of an outstanding chemist children were never particularly spoiled, the very future wife of Alexander Blok remembered that her childhood was very happy, stormy and full of joy.

Children's meetings of future spouses

The families of Blok and Mendeleeva communicated closely with each other and always maintained a warm relationship. This was the reason that Alexander Blok and Lyubov Mendeleeva, whose love story will be considered in this article, had the opportunity to meet for the first time in their childhood. When their parents worked together at the university, little Sasha and Lyuba were often taken to joint walks in the university garden. But then they were just children, and serious feelings between them arose many years later, in 1898.

Rapid adolescence of the Russian poet

In the future, Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva will be the only and everlasting muse for Blok. But before the love feelings for this woman matured in him, he was seen in a turbulent and slightly strange relationship with a certain Ksenia Sadovskaya. This thirty-seven-year-old woman was married and at the time of her acquaintance with Alexander already had three children. At the same time, Blok was only 16 when he was in love with Sadovskaya. The meeting of these two seemingly completely unsuitable ones in terms of romantic relations of people took place in one of the German resorts called Bad Nauheim. Blok fell in love with this woman, enlightened her poems and appointed secret meetings. After they returned to St. Petersburg, relations arose between them. But very soon Alexander is cooling to his lady and he has a new favorite - Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleyev.

The first love of each other

Once Lubin's mother invited seventeen Sasha to watch one of the performances that that summer was often staged in Boblovo for local peasants. Lubov Dmitrievna Mendeleyeva, whose biography we have examined, throughout her life periodically dreamed of becoming a great actress, and, of course, she took an active part in staging these performances, playing some of them even the main roles.

That evening, fatal for young people, encounters on the stage of an improvised theater were choreographed from Hamlet. Of course, Lyuba played Ophelia, and Block himself volunteered to play Hamlet.

The girl made a huge impression on him, she was fresh, young, tender and at the same time strict and unapproachable. At the same time, the young man made the opposite impression. She called him an arrogant poseur.

After the performance, Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva and Blok still decided to take a walk and were left alone. It was during this joint walk that they were imbued with mutual sympathy. Later, both remembered that this meeting was the beginning of their novel.

Passion for mysticism, Solovyov's teachings and dreams of "The Beautiful Lady"

A well-known fact is that Blok was very attached to Soloviev's teachings and subject to various mystifications. He believed in the existence of some mysterious Beautiful Lady, which is the embodiment of tenderness and femininity. And the meaning of all life is to find it and love with special love all your life. It is this beautiful lady who will become the main subject of the famous Blok lyric poetry, and the living embodiment of the image very soon he will find in his old friend Luba.

Mystical meetings in St. Petersburg

After that meeting in Boblovo in the relationship between Sasha and Any came the cooling. He returned to Petersburg and gradually began to consider for himself that their acquaintance was completely over. Mendeleev, in turn, enrolled in St. Petersburg for the Higher Women's Courses, completely immersed in the student atmosphere. It seemed that young people had long since given up their thoughts about each other. But they began to reduce the case. Once in Petersburg, Blok quite accidentally saw Lyuba, who was going to study. He did not call the girl, but simply followed her secretly, after holding it to the building of the Women's Courses.

A little time passed and the poet saw Lyuba again. This time a random meeting took place at the Maly Theater, during the premiere of "King Lear". It was then that in the head of Blok appeared and firmly entrenched the belief that all these meetings are far from accidental. He realized that everything that happens between him and Anybody is a mystical confluence of circumstances. Solovyov's ideas demanded that he find his only "Beautiful Lady," and Blok found it in Mendeleev's face.

Resurrection of love feelings

After a meeting at the theater, young people resume their communication again. In the Block, strong feelings awaken to Lyuba, which begin to border on some kind of obsession. She, on the contrary, in every way refuses to perceive his ideas and considerations on mystical themes. On the basis of ideological and religious considerations, they often argue and argue. Their relationship during this period is very unstable: they tend to tend to each other, then completely cool.

The logical development of this all comes in November 1902, when Alexander makes his favorite offer, and Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva accepts him.

The poet's relationship with his mother and her dislike for Mendeleeva

Alexandra Andreevna Beketova, Blok's mother, had a rather difficult fate. In her youth, she had a violent romance with a lawyer, Alexander Blok, Sr.. It ended with a wedding and the birth of a future poet. But this marriage was very unsuccessful. The young man loved to drink and allowed himself to raise his hand against his wife. She was forced to leave him and devoted all her subsequent life to her son. She adored her Sasha and gave him all the free time. Of course, when he announced his imminent marriage, Alexandra Andreyevna was, to put it mildly, not enthusiastic. She was very jealous of Blok, and besides she herself did not like Mendeleyev very much. Beketova considered her sister-in-law too cold and somewhat arrogant. Even after the wedding took place, my mother-in-law did not normally take her daughter-in-law, and their relationship did not develop. Paradoxically, women could make friends many years after Alexander's death. The grief brought them so close together that until their death, Aleksandra Andreevna lived with the once-hated Anyone.

Earthly and spiritual love in the understanding of Blok

Blok's adherence to Solovyov's teachings in many ways complicated his marital life with Anyone, since, strictly following them, Alexander perceived it as an ideal, the embodiment of the Eternal Feminine. In the poet's mind, there was a clear division between carnal, physical and spiritual love. To his wife, he had a second kind of feelings and constantly evaded physical intimacy, believing that she would eventually destroy their relationship. Most likely, this was the factor that forced Mendeleev to seek happiness with others in the future. The bloc at the same time did not lag behind the spouse and had relations both with ordinary maidens of easy conduct, and started quite serious novels. The first love triangle in this family was formed with the help of Blok's close friend, the poet, known under the pseudonym Andrei Bely.

Infinite treason and novels on the side

White in a certain period of time was very close to Blok. Alexander and his wife often stayed with Bely, and with each meeting he fell more and more in love with Lyubov Dmitrievna. She behaved ambiguously: on the one hand, she did not intend to leave her husband, but she supported the spark of interest in White. He wrote her letters with ardent confessions and requests to leave her husband, she showed them to her husband, and this trio had a permanent trial. All this continued for three years, for which Bely brought himself to a state of pathological dependence on Mendeleeva. Her all this eventually became tiresome. At one of the last joint meetings it was decided that Bely and the Blok family would not be seen during the following year. He kept his word and went to Munich. After that he met Mendeleev several times and finally finally cooled to her.

In this non-standard pair of intrigues on the side, not only the wife of Alexander Blok sinned. The poet himself was seen in endless connections with girls of easy virtue, but he also had serious novels. For example, it is worth remembering one of the actresses (to whom Blok always felt a special weakness) named Natalia Volokhova. She was quite spectacular externally, and at some point, it seemed to Alexander that it was to her that he felt a spiritual, unearthly intimacy, and carnal passion. The passion for this lady was so serious that they began to talk about the imminent divorce of Blok and Mendeleeva. But Lyuba was not at a loss, she herself came to Volkhova and invited the actress to take on not only her love affairs with her husband, but all other household care about him. After that, the actress's romance with Blok quickly ended, and her friendship with his lover's wife, strangely enough, lasted almost all her life.

Further, the intrigue leads Mendeleyev, and again with one of Blok's friends - George Chulkov. Blok does not pay any attention to this, and the chevalier Lyube soon gets bored.

Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva: children

Blok's wife also had a serious romance. Her chosen one was a young actor named Konstantin Davidovsky. The woman was with him on a theatrical tour around the Caucasus and wrote honestly in letters to Blok. After the end of the tour Luba returns home and tears with her lover all relationships. But it turns out that she was pregnant. Since the term was considerable, the Blocks decide to leave this baby and pretend that he is their common. Unfortunately, after birth the child lived only 8 days. Paradoxically, Alexander survived the death of the baby much harder than his own mother.

Blok's departure from life

After the death of the child, to recover, the couple travel a lot, Lyuba tries to forget herself and is addicted to the theater. She again has an affair with an actor who is nine years younger than her. She asks Blok for a divorce, but he does not let go of it. The poet himself, in turn, a little later takes a great interest in the opera singer - Delmas Love, but passion passes quickly. It would seem that this string of mutual changes could last forever, but the point was put by Blok's strange disease, which the doctors at that time could not find any explanation. He was tormented by high fever, strong incomprehensible pains. The poet died on August 7, 1921. Mother survived her son for only 2 years, and this time, strangely enough, she huddled in a small communal apartment with her once-hated daughter-in-law. Lyubov Dmitrievna Blok herself, after her husband's death, published a book of memories of him, worked in a choreographic school. They say that after the death of Alexander, she did not start a single novel, thus keeping him faithful after his death and preserving the memory of him.
