Locking the Keyboard on a Notebook and on a PC

It happens that there are situations when we only need a mouse on a personal computer, but the keyboard can only interfere. In this case, do not completely disable it, you can just block it. Also, locking the keyboard is sometimes necessary when there is a growing and very interested kid in the family. And sometimes a pet, fluffy affectionate kitty, starts to patch up, climb directly to the keyboard, while you do not use it, thereby knocking down the work process.

Locking the keyboard is not an easy process, it does not take much of your time. And unlocking the keyboard will also pass quickly and easily.

So, to lock the keyboard implemented without interference, you will need to do the following:

  1. You have to press and hold the right Shift key for eight seconds.
  2. After eight seconds of holding the key, the "Input Filtering" window will appear. In this window, you will see general information about "Key Filtering". This option does not completely block the keyboard, it just turn on the ignore mode of repeated and brief presses.
  3. In order to enable partial blocking, you need to click on the button in the window that we have selected: either it is OK, or - Cancel. To configure the filtering mode, you must select and, accordingly, click on the button called "Options".
  4. Usually after clicking the "Options" button you will get a window "Special features" where three blocks will be available: "Input filtering", "Key sticking" and "Scoring mode switching". To configure the settings in the second block, called "Key Sticking", you must click on the "Settings" button.
  5. In the window that appears after clicking and is called "Filter mode setting", you can configure all the key sticking parameters. After carrying out all the necessary actions, you just have to confirm your choice by clicking the "OK" button.

Please note that locking the keyboard does not protect your computer from unauthorized interference. It only prevents unnecessary keystrokes when it is not required.

There are other options when the process (locking the computer keyboard) is done quickly and qualitatively:

  1. If the computer is assembled in the AT case, then it will have a keypad lock. When inserting a key into this lock, and then turning this key, the keyboard will stop working. We block only against the clockwise movement - this should be remembered as "Our Father"! In order to unlock it, you will need to rotate the same key clockwise.
  2. If the case is made in the form factor ATX, then the lock of the keyboard on it will not be. In this case, you can disassemble the keyboard and, finding on its board an oxide capacitor, cut the path that leads from the positive terminal of the capacitor to the chip. In place parallel to the cut, you must connect the switch and place it in a convenient place in the body of the keyboard itself. After that you just need to open the switch to lock, and to unlock - to close.
  3. Some keyboard manufacturers have controllers with a lock program on the case. They are indicated by an additional key Fn. And one of the keys F shows the lock. To lock the keyboard, you must simultaneously press these two keys, and to perform the same procedure.

Of course, all of the above is suitable for both desktop computers and laptops. That is, the keypad lock on the laptop is practically the same as for a stationary computer. Unless, it is necessary to note last variant, at laptops key Fn meets seldom enough.
