History of creation

It begins with a document that was signed by Emperor Nikolai the First in 1840 stating that a medical faculty should be opened at Kiev University. The need for such a decision of the king was due to several reasons. The first was that Kiev had to transfer the Vilna Academy, which was located in Vilna (now Vilnius). The second was due to the high need for doctors, which was exacerbated whenever epidemics and wars began.

The first lectures began in September 1841. Thus, the medical faculty of the Kiev University named after St. Vladimir appeared. For some time he remained a division of the university. The status of an independent educational institution he received much later - in 1920. Then, under the name of the Institute of Health, several medical faculties were united, located in different universities and institutes. The newly formed educational institution changed its name several times until in 1921 it became the Kiev Medical Institute.

In wartime the institute was evacuated to Chelyabinsk, but already in 1943 the classes were resumed. Another significant date in the history of the university is the appropriation of the name of Alexander Bogomolets. The last changes in the name of the university were made in 1995 - then it received the status of a national one.

University structure

The Kiev Bogomolets Medical University includes twelve faculties that provide training for doctors in various fields of activity:

• Four medical faculties, which train surgeons, gynecologists, pediatricians, therapists, immunologists, etc .;

Among the most famous personalities who graduated from the Kiev Bogomolets Medical University are cardiac surgeon and writer Nikolai Amosov, writer-playwright and simultaneously practicing physician Mikhail Bulgakov, academician and president of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR Alexander Bogomolets, whose name is today's university. There are outstanding graduates and representatives of the church. This is Archbishop Luke, in the world better known as Valentin Feliksovich Voino-Yasenetsky. He was not only a graduate of the university, but also a famous surgeon, skillfully combined his secular activities with serving God.

Also glorified his alma mater and doctor of medical sciences and professor Evgeny Chazov, who conducted his research in the field of cardiology.

University of Alternative and Traditional Medicine

In addition to state universities, Kiev medical universities are also represented by one private university. Its peculiarity is that it combines state standards of medical education and the most effective and tried-and-tested folk and non-traditional methods of treatment.

This is the Kiev Medical University of UANM (CMU UANM). The abbreviation hides the Ukrainian Academy of Traditional Medicine.

The idea of creating the university arose from its founder Valery Pokanovic in the early nineties. Applying various folk practices, Honored Doctor of Ukraine noted their effectiveness and embodied his plan in 1992, creating the Kiev Medical University of Traditional Medicine on the basis of the UANM.

Structure and units

The educational process is carried out by three faculties:

The University co-organizes the structure of CIRCEOS, whose activities are aimed at ensuring cooperation and scientific research in the field of medicine.

The students of the University take part in international programs providing employment abroad for a number of years in a row. The names of these programs speak for themselves: "Service for Peace", "Nurses in the United States."

Famous personalities of the university

Despite a short period of existence, the university managed to raise a number of outstanding personalities, among which there are well-deserved doctors of Ukraine, scientists and technicians, honorary laureates of State prizes and awards, doctors of science and academics. Among them: honored doctors of Ukraine Zoya Veselovskaya and Vasily Melnik, honored workers of science and technology Georgy Gayko and Vasily Timofeev, as well as Vladimir Skiba, who besides the named titles is also a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine.
