Kerry Japan - guest from China

Kerria Japanese is a beautifully flowering deciduous shrub which belongs to the family of Rosaceae. She came to us from China. This overseas guest received her name in honor of Kerr, a London collector of plants, a gardener who works in a botanical nursery and is fond of flower varieties brought from Asia. The plant - in Russian gardens an infrequent guest, apparently because of its southern origin.

In appearance kerriya Japanese is very reminiscent of a grassy bush: its shoots are completely green and only slightly at the base slightly brown. Its height barely reaches a meter, but its transverse dimension sometimes reaches two meters (thanks to the root of the tree). The leaves of the plant are ten centimeters, green, with denticles at the edges.

Japanese kerrias, whose photo is particularly bright during its flowering period, has several varieties, such as Picta, Pleniflora, etc. It blooms with bright yellow fragrant flowers very similar to small roses.

In gardens, kerriya is often found Japanese terry, which under favorable conditions can delight the eye with gold flowers twice a year. Of the non-varietal varieties, one can distinguish a variety of Albiflora with five-petalled white flowers.

One of the main factors for growing this plant is the right place. The bush of the kerriya loves well-lit sunny areas, protected from the cold wind. The landing pit should have a depth of forty centimeters. The earth mixture is composed of sod and vegetable garden soil with humus. Complex fertilizer is added to it .

Kerry Japanese is a water -loving plant, therefore it needs to be watered weekly during the whole vegetation process. In winter, a lot of snow should be poured around its base. The bush tolerates painless transplantation, the main thing is that it happens in autumn or spring, when there is no leaf cover on it.

In July, after the flowering, the plant must be cut off. The branches are shortened to one height, and the young shoots are slightly pinched. At the same time, it is necessary to carry out root feeding. For this purpose, the mullein infusion is best suited. The combination of pruning with the application of fertilizer will promote good branching and growth.

With careful care, Japanese kerry will please not only its beautiful forms, but also long, throughout the summer, flowering.

If the bush grows in the right place, then the winter shelter is not required: enough snow fell out. Otherwise, the plant should be covered with lapnika, bending the branches to the ground.

Kerria most easily multiplies by division. And you do not need to dig an old bush, you can only transplant the shoots from it, transplant it in the desired place. In addition, the plant multiplies and cuttings, cut with a pair of leaves and planted in a light penumbra in the greenhouse, where they must overwinter. And only in the spring the material is planted already in the final place - away from drafts, in a well-lit part of the garden.

In landscape design this bush is often found in large mixed flower beds in a company with Japanese maple and rhododendron. He perfectly coexists with the conifers - thuja, juniper and spruce, fits into the composition with hosts, roses and spiraeus.
