And in 1937, on Liberty Island, a center opened, which deals with the breeding of various varieties and the development of methods for processing raw materials.

Not only cigars, but cigarettes

Cuban brands of tobacco have long been known to true connoisseurs. But few know that this country is famous not only for cigars, but also for cigarettes. The names of such brands as Cohiba, H.Upmann, Aromas, Monterrey, Titanes, Hollywood and so on, cause some smokers of solid age a real pleasure. But I must say that not all.

The fact is that in Soviet times our people, due to known reasons, completely lacked the culture of cigar smoking. After all, as we already know, this tobacco product should not be delayed. And Cuban cigarettes "Ligeros", for example, in its content represented a reduced and even simplified version of the cigar. Their smoke, too, to breathe deeply was difficult. Hence the unpopularity. But there were also gourmets who not only knew, but also knew how to correctly handle cigarettes brought from the Island of Freedom.

"Ligeros" is a well-known brand

Not so long ago in our country it was practically impossible to get real Cuban tobacco products. They were mainly produced for the domestic market. But today the situation has changed dramatically. Stunning Cuban cigarettes with a luxurious taste and aroma are already available in almost all Russian regions. One of the most famous brands is the "Ligeros". These cigarettes in the eighties of last century were sold in all tobacco kiosks. In the people they were called then "death by sail." The fact is that they have an extraordinary fortress. A sailboat, depicted on a dark background of the pack, is another reason for this unusual name.

In the filling of the Cuban cigarette is a mixture of three types of tobacco leaves, each of which performs a certain function. The strongest of them, providing the character and taste of the tobacco product, is ligero. Hence the Cuban cigarettes "Ligeros" and have their name. They are made from leaves of this type of tobacco. Interestingly, the Spanish ligero is translated "easy." And the paper from which these cigarettes are made is a product of reed processing. Therefore, it is somewhat sweet to taste.

Quality

One can only wonder why in the Soviet years Cuban cigarettes Partagas, Ligeros and others were not very popular among ordinary smokers. Moreover, they cost quite cheaply. And it's not in their quality. Cuban cigarettes contain only natural tobacco, they practically do not have chemical enzyme additives. Apparently, it really is in their fortress, close to cigars.

For example, the Cuban brand of Cohiba cigarettes has been known to connoisseurs since 1966. The brand received worldwide fame in 1969, immediately after its official registration. However, these cigarettes for another fifteen years were considered exclusive and were available only to the elite, and even then only the Cuban. But in 1982, the brand "premium" began to be sold all over the world. Raw materials for almost all Cuban tobacco products are grown on the best plantations of the country. Specialists invest in this process both experience and traditions of local production.

Partagas

Connoisseurs of quality "smoke" know well the "earthy" taste of this tobacco. Legendary Cuban cigars "Partagas" are created in the factory of the same name from the middle of the nineteenth century. Today this enterprise produces only seven million cigars a year. Thirty species are twisted in the factory, and only two are made by machine twisting. The rest are created exclusively by hand.

Cigar Partagas is created from tobacco, which is grown in the region of Vuelta Abajo. It is here that the best varieties of this culture grow. Today, this factory in Cuba is the largest. It produces such cigars as Partagas No. 1, de Luxe, Coronas, Princess and many others.

In the Soviet Union, cigarettes of the same name were sold, which were made from scraps of tobacco leaves of higher grades. And today only cigars Partagas are available to connoisseurs. They are made of long-leaf fillers and wrapped in selective coverslips with first-class torsadors by hand.
