The new "Lada-Kalina-2", a photo of which you will see below, came to replace the first generation of the VAZ model in May 2013. The first generation saw the light in 2004 and in some years rose to the fourth place in the rating of the most popular cars in Russia. For nine years on the assembly line the model has grown fond of many motorists. What did it replace?

Appearance

The second generation is produced in two bodies, one of which is the Kalina-2 hatchback. The sedan is also produced under the name "Lada-Granta". The second body is "Kalina-2" -universal. The appearance of the updated model is quite different from its predecessor. The front part of the body is already from the "Grants": wings, headlights, hood. The back part is left of the old "Kalina". Small changes have affected the trunk lid, rear fenders and rear block headlights. The fact is that AvtoVAZ held a competition for design development, in which several agencies participated. By results, two were selected. One took the concept of "forward", the other - the rear. In fact, it's the same "Grant", only in the back of a hatchback or station wagon. In general, the whole car has become more angular and looks more modern. The rigidity of the body increased by only 3% compared to the previous version.

Front view

The main difference is wheel arches with a "greasy" stamped edging. They make Kalina more stylish and modern. The wheel arch becomes larger and the car looks more "muscular". Along with this, there are front 14 "brake discs and rear 14" brake drums. The headlights are made, as in many foreign cars: black plastic, in which individual elements are inserted. Separately, it is necessary to mention the radiator grille, which has greatly increased in comparison with the previous model and creates a "smile" of the Peugeot-style car. It consists of large plastic cells. This gives and its pluses, but also its disadvantages for the car "Lada-Kalina-2." Reviews of the owners say that the pluses are worth noting the good cooling of the radiator, and from the minuses - the fact that small pebbles can fly through the links of the grid and get on the radiator.

A few more small nuances of "front end" changes are the absence of bolt caps in the windshield lining and the presence of two-nozzle glass washer nozzles.

Back view

The rear of the car looks compact, like a European hatchback. Changes have touched the rear block headlights, wings and trunk lid, on which the "sword" over the license plate was painted in the color of the body. Chassis

Suspension of this car got from "Lada-Grant". Now we can not say that the "Kalina" on the track behaves, figuratively speaking, like a cow on the ice. More can no longer be done, since the suspension has a beam structure. Increased caster affects the control: the steering wheel turns tighter. Motorization

Here we have three motors, one of which is VAZ's eight-valve from Grants with an updated piston-piston group, one engine from Priora, with automatic weapons, and one new 127th engine. It has a receiver with a variable intake geometry. With this design, air at low revs follows a longer path, and at higher speeds, a shorter one. This gives good traction both from below and at high speeds. To the right of the engine is a cold fence. Now the system is more like "Koreans". Instead of the DMR, here, now, the DBP (absolute pressure sensor), which reads the pressure in the receiver, and the DTV (air temperature sensor), which have made a wider shelf of torque. The increase in power was 8 l / s. The air conditioner is easier to rotate than the previous version. This gives much less loss in dynamics. The average consumption of gasoline in the urban cycle is 8-9 liters per 100 km. For 1.6L engines this is an absolutely normal flow rate.

Transmission

The new "Kalina-2" is offered either with a five -speed manual gearbox with a cable drive, or with a four-stage Japanese "automatic". The cable drive is above the box and serves to switch gears not directly, but, in fact, through this drive. This greatly facilitates the gear shift. Another nice trifle is that the reverse turn-on switch is on top. When it breaks, you no longer need to remove the engine protection and drain the oil out of the box. There is also no oil dipstick, and oils need a third less than before - 2.2 liters.

The four-speed "automatic" from "Nissan", familiar to us on the "Mikr", is one of the most reliable in its class. According to the manufacturer's statistics, there was not a single replacement.

Trunk

The trunking system opens either with a key or a button from the passenger compartment. The lid rises smoothly and quite high, which will be convenient for people of high stature. The volume did not change, but a handle appeared on the inner skin panel, with which the trunk closes.

Salon

In the cabin immediately strikes a new three-spoke steering wheel with airbag. Klaxon moved to the center of the steering wheel, combined with the airbag. It's much more convenient than the little buttons on the sides in the old version of "Kalina". In the car "Lada-Kalina-2", the owners' testimonials indicate exactly this. This is much safer, because in an emergency situation, small buttons could simply not be accessed or even forgotten about them.

In the second "Kalina" a new "torpedo" with a new instrument panel. On it along the edges there is a speedometer with a tachometer, and in the center there is a computer screen and control lamps that light up if something is wrong. Oil and coolant temperature sensors were replaced with test lamps. In the center of the console, in expensive versions there is a touchscreen of the multimedia system, which is duplicated by a button control from the remote located below the ventilation grilles. Everything is accessible and convenient. You can find fault with the sound quality of the standard audio system.

In the cheap versions, there is a small box for small things at this place. The radio tape recorder can be inserted a little lower, including a two-media system. A place for this is provided. Even lower on expensive versions there is an air conditioner control unit, which works quite quietly, and a lot of adjustments are available. On cheaper versions, a ventilation control unit is installed here. Near the gearshift lever there are two cupholders. The driver's seat is comfortable. There is enough room for drivers of great growth.

Rear Seats

In the back seat there is enough space for tall passengers. Unfortunately, the central armrest is not provided. But there are a lot of pockets for small things, and enough room for the legs. At the disposal of passengers in the back seat, there is also one cup holder.

Driving performance

The test "Kalina-2" showed that the car is smoothly moving from its place. At low speeds, she is rather squat. Feels good "grassroots" traction. True, electronic "gas" is still a little thoughtful. The new mechanical box is much better at switching speeds. Overclocking to 100 kilometers became faster and takes 11.6 seconds for the Lada-Kalina-2 model. The owners' comments indicate that the "automatic" box also easily picks up at the start. The electric power steering wheel has become more informative, and the noise insulation is much better than on previous models. By car it will be very easy to drive on busy roads. Dimensions are felt easily. But you can also note the minus - the brake pedal is not very informative, and you need to get used to it. But when driving on bad roads (or none at all), the energy-intensive suspension makes itself felt. The car is going well, you can not even brake.

Price list

The price for a new "Kalina" starts from the mark of 340 000 rubles. In the most expensive version of the "Kalina-2" (complete with automatic transmission, air conditioning, multimedia and cast discs) will cost 465 000 rubles. Are there any other options. "Kalina-2" configuration with a 127-m engine, air conditioning, multimedia, mechanical transmission and cast discs will cost the buyer in the amount of about 408,000 rubles. You can buy a car on credit for 5 years. In this case, "Kalina-2", the price of which 340 000 rubles, will cost the owner 7-9 thousand rubles a month.

This car is quite competitive in its price category of new cars. Outwardly, he looks better than others. Salon is executed at the level, and the choice of available options is also quite wide. The nearest foreign competitors with air conditioning and multimedia cost 50-80 thousand more. The car has plenty of space, and everything is at hand. Everything is easy to reach. Enough large mirrors and windows provide good visibility. It is easy and quite comfortable to travel around the city.

As a drawback it can be noted that the machine does not keep the road at high speeds. There is a lack of a good wheelbase. But the car behaves very well on a bad road. So it's safe to say that it's a decent car for your money. This is a profitable purchase from an economic point of view. Competitors may be second-hand foreign cars, but the probability of getting on a "bucket of bolts" in this price category is very high.
