Manual Transmission. Device, malfunction and operation

The manual transmission is installed in moving gears. The system serves to change the direction and magnitude of the torque, as well as transfer it from the engine to the driving pair of wheels. In addition, the gearbox makes it possible to separate the engine and drive wheels for a long time.

Manual Transmission. Device

The box contains the following components:

  1. Carter;

  2. Shafts (primary, secondary, intermediate) with gears;

  3. Additional shaft with reverse gears;

  4. Synchronizers;

  5. Switching device complete with lock and lock;

  6. The lever of switching of speeds.

    The device of the mechanical gearbox contains all the necessary parts and components for controlling the moving equipment.

    Purpose of the components, parts included in the gearbox

    • Carter includes all the main parts and components of the mechanical box. Mounted on the clutch housing, attached to the engine of the vehicle. Half the volume of the crankcase must be filled with oil (transmission or motor). The fluid is needed to lubricate the gears at the time of heavy work loads.

    • The shafts contain a set of gears with an unequal number of teeth. The parts rotate in the bearings of the crankcase.

    • Synchronizers are designed to ensure an unstressed, smooth and silent transmission. The effect is achieved due to the equalization of the angular velocities of the rotating gears.

    • The gearshift is set by the driver using the lever in the car's interior. The switching mechanism is necessary to change gears in the box. The lock device does not allow two transmissions to be switched on at the same time. The lock helps to keep the shifting of the speeds from spontaneous reset.

      The main malfunctions of the mechanical box. Causes and Troubleshooting

      The manual transmission has its own malfunctions. The main, most common faults are: leakage of lubricating fluid, noise at the time of operation, difficult switching of gears, spontaneous dump of speeds.

      Leaking lubricating oil (oil) can be caused by damage to gasket seals, oil seals, loosening the parts of the crankcase covers. The fault is eliminated by replacing the gaskets, seals, tightening the lid fasteners.

      Noise in the process of work. A manual transmission may create unnecessary noise during operation. A malfunction usually occurs due to a malfunction of the synchronizers, wear of the bearings, splines - joints, gears. Replacing faulty parts will solve the problem.

      Fixing the gears can be caused by the failure of the parts of the switching mechanism, gears, synchronizers. Defective parts, as well as nodes, require replacement.

      Spontaneous disconnection of the gear is possible due to a malfunction of the locking device, gear, synchronizers. For the purpose of troubleshooting, replace the parts that have failed.

      Proper operation

      The manual transmission requires proper handling during operation. The service life is significantly increased with the competent use of the mechanism and the corresponding care for it. To avoid the rapid failure of the gearbox, follow the recommendations:

      1. Periodic oil change in the crankcase of the box, according to the instructions;

      2. Smooth, quiet work with the lever of switching of speeds;

      3. When switching speeds, observe small pauses in the neutral position;

      4. Monitoring the oil level.

        In addition to these rules, it is advisable to listen to the work of the vehicle. Occurrence of extraneous noise, not typical for the normal operation of the mechanisms, requires an immediate response. Competent and careful handling of the car will pay for a long period of its operation.
