Jeep "Lamborghini": military vehicle for civilian purposes

In the eighties of the last century, the US military announced a tender for an SUV for its own use. It was for this purpose that the Jeep Lamborghini was created . The model was named LM002. It was an easy and at the same time capacious car, which was characterized by high traffic and the ability to install weapons. Despite this, the winners of the contest were not able to become Italians, as it won the local "Hammer". It is for this reason that only 300 copies of this model were released from Lamborghini. Although the tender was lost, representatives of the Italian car concern suggested that the car could be used for civilian purposes. As a result, in 1986, during the car dealership in the Belgian city of Brussels, the official first presentation of the model took place, which was then carried out for another seven years. The Jeep "Lamborghini" was equipped with a 450-horsepower carburetor engine with a volume of 5.2 liters. It had a V-shape and consisted of twelve cylinders. The power unit functioned in combination with a five-step "mechanics". The maximum possible speed of an off-road car is 200 km / h, and fuel consumption in these conditions is 53 liters per hundred kilometers. One of the main advantages of the car is that the Jeep "Lamborghini" has a high cross-country ability and stability, which successfully combined with a soft ride even in conditions of roads with loose coating. The manufacturer managed to achieve this in many respects due to wide tires.

Chassis and interior

Now a few words about the running gear. Designers installed front-ventilated brakes on the SUV. In this case, each of the disks can boast the presence of two calipers. A drum brake system was used at the rear. This decision is dictated primarily by the large mass of the car, because the Jeep "Lamborghini" weighed about three tons. Enabling the front drive was possible only through a special key. This caused some discomfort, because the driver needed to get out of the salon for this. According to experts, this was the main reason that the American army refused to LM002 and made its choice in favor of the "Hammer". This is not surprising, because in combat conditions such a feature was life-threatening. The interior of the SUV is difficult to call spacious. It is visually divided into two halves by a cardan shaft, which greatly complicates the movement from the rear seats to the front. As for the adjustment, only the chairs located in the front move here.

Completion of production

Despite the efforts of the designers of "Lamborghini", the car still remained purely army. Hopes for the interest of the Arab sheiks, for which he proved to be very modest, did not materialize. This was the reason that the car was removed from the assembly line in 1993. For some time the car was used by the armed forces of Saudi Arabia, Libya and Lebanon. If we talk about the cost of such an unusual car, like the Lamborghini jeep, its price now averages 120 thousand US dollars, which is equivalent to 4 million rubles.
