Izmaylovsky Island, Moscow: excursions. Temple, a museum on Izmailovsky Island. How to get to Izmailovsky Island?

Moscow is a city of many faces. Near the busy modern streets there are places practically untouched by modern civilization. They preserved both the spirit of deep antiquity, and ancient architectural monuments that were witnesses of different - heroic and sad - pages of the history of the Russian state. One of these places, of course, is Izmaylovsky Island, due to its existence to Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich by the nickname Tishayshy.

Creation of the island

He was a wise and diligent ruler, but he did not differ in character riot, therefore, probably, he was not too famous. Izmaylovsky lands belonged to the Romanov dynasty, and in the middle of the seventeenth century the tsar decided to build a homestead here, which was done.

First, through the construction of several dams, the Vine and Silver ponds were connected together. This, in fact, caused the emergence of Izmailovsky Island, which is the creation of human hands. After such an ingenious solution to the defense task, the construction of the estate began, which ended only in 1690.

Sovereign residence

On the enclosed space was the Gosudarev dvor, a wooden tower-palace, a stone Cathedral of the Intercession erected on the site of a dilapidated wooden church, and the Mostovaya Tower. It ended with a hundred-meter bridge, along which all the guests entered the territory of the Izmailovsky Island. Not far from the cathedral, the church of the prince Joasaph was built. To our day, unfortunately, it has not survived, falling victim to the revolutionary-minded working people after the well-known events of 1917. They thoroughly damaged the Izmailovo Pokrovsky Cathedral, a majestic building of the late seventeenth century.

Intercession Cathedral

It was built on the model of the Kremlin Uspensky Cathedral and very richly decorated: small and large tiles on the facades give the building a magnificent and elegant appearance at the same time. Presented here and the so-called peacock eye - a pattern invented by the Russian master Halfbrace. The domes are not golden, but dark, scaly. They give the cathedral an original, unique look.

The interior of the temple was rather modest. The only exception was the iconostasis created by the best masters from different regions of Russia.

The bell tower of the main temple of the island was served for some time by the Tower Bridge. It is in some ways in harmony with the cathedral: it is also decorated with tiles and columns.

The Trail of Peter the Great

Since the residence was washed by water, a special boat was brought from England, where a variety of travels along the waves were made, if necessary.

This vessel was discovered by the young Peter I at one of the farmyards of the estate and later he was amusing the local audience, wearing it on the Silver-Grape pond, periodically arranging "sea battles".

Much later, the great emperor will call the wooden participant of the amusements of his youth "the grandfather of the Russian fleet", and the Izmailovsky Island is his "cradle".

Now the English boat (or rather, what is left of it) is shown in Vernisazh, which is located nearby - on the other side of the Vineyard-Silver Pond. It was recently (in 2007) built the so-called Izmailovo Kremlin, which reproduces the ancient Russian wooden architecture. On colorful buildings, designed mainly for tourists, the island offers a beautiful view. Quite near is the chic and ultra-modern hotel complex Izmailovo: next to the old buildings of the seventeenth century, it looks like an alien from the future.

The Tsar-Experimenter

The State Court was surrounded by numerous economic and innovative buildings: Alexei Mikhailovich, apparently, was a big supporter of progress. In the greenhouses on the territory of Izmaylovsky Island, unusual fruits and vegetables were grown at that time (mostly experimented with capricious southern cultures), numerous artisans worked in the workshops.

The Russian Tsar himself , spending his summer in his residence, wasted his time hunting in the surrounding forests and managed the destinies of the state. Sometimes in the premises of the Mostovaya Tower there were meetings of the "parliament" of the seventeenth century - the Boyar Duma (not such a large tower could easily accommodate the participants of the event).

Monuments of ancient architecture

Today this structure is one of the few preserved. In addition to the tower there is the already mentioned Pokrovsky Cathedral (now the existing temple on Izmailovsky Island), the Sovereign Courtyard and the East and West Gates (also called the Front and Rear Gates). They have survived quite operational until today. True, the rear most often remain closed.

The remaining samples of ancient architecture fell under the onslaught of ruthless time and the French army: the manor was thoroughly plundered and destroyed during the Patriotic War of 1812.

Only in the late thirties, Emperor Nicholas I decided that the holy place should not be empty. At his command on the place of the desolate residence, military almshouses were built. At the same time, two buildings were erected close to the Pokrovsky Cathedral, causing the appearance of the structure to be seriously damaged: it was necessary to sacrifice two of the three elegant entrances and deprive travelers of the pleasure of seeing the temple from all sides.

However, blame the architects Ton and Bykovsky in a limited aesthetic sense is not worth it: the only surviving church on Izmailovsky Island by that time gave a roll and threatened to collapse. Newly built buildings simply pinned it on two sides, serving as a kind of support.

Restoration of justice

After the Revolution of 1917 , the almshouses turned into communal apartments: there was a workers' village, called the town of Bauman. Some "lucky beggars" continued to live here at the end of the 20th century. Then, the historical past of Izmaylovskiy Island was given due, and now it is part of the institution with an unplayable memory for a mere mortal name (abbreviated - MGOMZ).

On the territory there are no entertainment facilities, it is forbidden to organize picnics. Perhaps, therefore, the park that is in the neighborhood enjoys greater popularity: there, all this is even in abundance.

A quiet place in noisy Moscow

For those who prefer a different holiday, the Izmailovsky Island is perfect. How to get to this quiet, peaceful and very beautiful place? The nearest metro station is Partizanskaya. The task is facilitated by the pleasant circumstance that out of it there is only one way out, so there is no need to wander in the dungeons.

Walking along the bustling Izmaylovskoye Highway (a maximum of half an hour), travelers find themselves at one of the three bridges connecting the island with the mainland, the Porch. It is automotive, but it is not worthwhile to expect to ride on the Sovereign Court in your own gig: the entry is allowed only to official vehicles, so that citizens arriving by private transport will have to leave the means of transportation in the parking lot.

Even closer to the metro - the curved pedestrian bridge, a path leads to it, which you can turn off from the road leading to the Izmailovo Kremlin.

Along the perimeter, the island is skirted by an asphalt path, so you can admire the surrounding beauty in any weather. In the capital you will rarely find a place as solitary and crowded as Izmailovsky Island. Moscow, rumbling and cramped, as if backed away from it, leaving a space full of peace. On the bushes overgrown with shrubbery full of fishermen waiting for biting, along the paths and glades roam romantic lovers couples and Muscovites, who adore the local places.

Museums and exhibitions of Izmailovsky Island

Meanwhile, Russia is trying to develop in terms of tourism. Fortunately, Izmaylovsky Island was no exception: excursions, review and thematic, are now available for those wishing to know more about the history of their native land. Their cost is quite democratic, and a lot of interesting facts, legends and stories are offered to attention.

In the courtyard, surrounded by the buildings of the former almshouse, with two gates and a cathedral, it is very pleasant to walk. The age-old limes protect against the scorching sun, and the old walls absorb the noise of the big city almost completely. The yard is green and well maintained: on the flower beds - a lush bloom, the paths are cleanly swept.

In most of the buildings there are offices of museum workers and restorers: when the church authorities expelled them from the Novodevichy Convent, there was no particular choice. Now the buildings are trying to align with the new destination. There is a small and rather poor manor museum. Izmailovsky Island (at least for now) can boast of a small number of exhibits. The main property remains architectural monuments of the seventeenth century, in which interesting exhibitions occasionally occur. You can see the poster on the convenient and current site of the museum. The island is looking forward to its guests.
