Is the funny title of the book a mistake or a reason to give a prize?

Usually already on the cover the reader can understand what awaits him. However, the funny name of the book often turns the contents into a puzzle. At least, such compositions raise the mood, which is fine.

Who gives absurd titles for books?

The existence of "antipremias", which give for doubtful merits, can boast of many areas of art. The literature did not stand aside. Prize Diagram Prize, founded by the eponymous company and the magazine The Bookseller, is issued for the funniest title of the book.

The author does not receive any prizes, except for increased attention. But the reader who nominated a winning book in the nomination is given a bottle of wine or champagne.

What lies behind the shocking names of the three winners?

The funny name does not guarantee that the contents of the book will be just as funny. It is worth to evaluate at least three famous winners of the award The Diagram Prize.

  • "Cooking with a turd" (2011). The author did not mean anything bad! In fact, Pu is her name. By fatal accident, the word Poo in English means not at all a "crab", as in Thai, but a slang name for feces. Thanks to this, the usual culinary collection was awarded for the most ridiculous title of the book.
  • "People who do not know that they died: how they attach themselves to unsuspecting outsiders, and what to do about it" (2005). A strange and even frightening name is justified. The book is about the spirits of the dead and how to get rid of them.
  • "How to drive on a date" (2013). The content of the book is absolutely obvious from the original title. Surprisingly, the employee of The Bookseller magazine noted the opus not only for a funny name, but also for useful content. Although another editor did not agree with him, he only noticed that "the reward gets feces."

How do you like children's books?

Adults, of course, have their own quirks. But what guided the authors, when they chose such names of books for children?

The Tale of Mole

It is unclear why the topic of feces so attracts fans of the epistolary genre. But it's hard not to pay attention to Werner Holzwars book. After all, his children's fairy tale "About the little mole who wanted to know who had done it on his head" is a real study.

The plot is rather unpretentious. The mole climbed out of the hole to meet the dawn. And at that moment a "strange oblong object resembling a sausage" lands on his head, the identification of which will not cause difficulties for the reader. Next, the poor creature will look for the culprit, studying in detail the process of defecation of different living beings.

To see the light the German opus about natural processes could not immediately. However, after the publication even became the basis for the theatrical production and was translated into 27 languages.

Aunt Misha, Uncle Tanya

Unlike the previous book, "The new father's wife, who's called Robert" is written for a serious purpose. The author in a positive way explains to the children, who such homosexuals, and helps to mitigate the consequences of same-sex marriage of one of the parents. In the story, the father of the protagonist leaves the family to live with a new friend.

The use of the book is doubtful. Therefore, while it is known only as a story for children with the strangest name.

What else should children know from childhood?

If the child can really face the issue of same-sex marriages in his youth, then what about drugs? The authors of the American book "It's just grass" are sure that to explain to the child what to what can be already from 3 years!

The main character Jackie wakes up from an unfamiliar smell that leads her into her parent bedroom. Mom and Dad, spending their leisure time on smoking cannabis, do not hesitate to give the child an excursion into the world of marijuana.

Pay attention to the fact that this book forms a positive attitude towards the drug. "It's just grass!" - says the author. Although it indicates that it is not worthwhile to use it for young children.

As you said?

The funny title of the book is not always the author's choice. Sometimes awkward situations arise when a person first hears about a work. Librarians hear most of these blunders:

  • "Three in a boat, poverty and a dog", DK Jerome.
  • "Crime on Kazan", FM Dostoyevsky.
  • "In Blok's pants", VV Mayakovsky.
  • "Above the abyss of walruses," DD Salinger.
  • "Woe, o foggy, A. S. Griboedov.

Some books with strange names have interesting and useful content. But more often this move serves only to attract readers' attention. Perhaps their authors should take an example from the classics and bet on quality, not outrageous.
