The key part of the car is the ignition coil

The car is not only a modern means of transportation, but also a complex technical mechanism. In this article we will talk about such an important detail as the ignition coil.

How does the machine get off the ground? An inexperienced car enthusiast will say that the engine drives it. So it is so, but the working mixture in the cylinders ignites from a spark, which is fed by the ignition system. Thus, there is a force that causes the machine to gain speed.

The ignition system is of three types: contact, contactless and electronic. In our time, the first two species live out their last days. Modern machines are equipped exclusively with electronic ignition system. Of course, you can not argue with progress. However, many of our citizens continue to drive on old domestic cars. In such machines contact and non-contact ignition system is used. In any mechanism there is a basic detail. In our case, this is the ignition coil. In simple words - a transformer with two windings. Let's take a closer look at the device of the ignition coil.

First of all, this part is divided into three main types: general, individual and dual. The device of each of them is almost identical. Any ignition coil consists of two windings: primary and secondary. The first includes up to 150 coils of copper wire. To avoid short circuits, there is insulation. This type of winding is characterized by two low-voltage terminals on the cover of the ignition coil itself. Go ahead. The secondary winding is much thicker (up to 30,000 turns of fine copper wire) and is located inside the primary winding. High voltage is formed by the connection of one end of the secondary winding with the negative mark of the primary. Plus, the other end is connected to the central terminal on the coil cover. In order to form a magnetic field with proper parameters, both windings are placed around the iron core.

All of the above coil elements are in a special housing with an insulating cover. Here in brief, the device of this part. Any ignition coil is characterized by some resistance of its windings. For each model, this value is individual. The high voltage produced by the distributor is supplied to the spark plugs. Thus, a spark arises that ignites the working mixture in the cylinders.

The device seems to be sorted out. Now let's discuss how the ignition coil is inspected. Every motorist got into situations in which this or that detail of the car went out of order. As a rule, breakdowns happen at the most inopportune moment. Imagine this situation: the car does not start, while the starter rotates the crankshaft and the fuel is fed into the carburettor. It would seem that everything is fine, however, there is no spark. And the generator has nothing to do with it, because the engine can be started from the battery.

The problem is in the ignition coil. It converts the low-voltage voltage to high-voltage. How do I independently check the ignition coil? So, remove the cap from the trambler, scroll the crankshaft so that the contacts of the breaker are in the closed state. Then we turn on the ignition, take the high-voltage wire coming from the ignition coil, and bring it to the "mass", maintaining a distance of one to two centimeters. It is also necessary to periodically break the contacts of the breaker by hand.

A good coil for each opening will produce a strong spark of bluish color. On the instrument panel of the car there is an ammeter. So, when you turn off the faulty ignition coil, its arrow will be in the zero zone. The failed part is not subject to repair. You can easily put a new one, while you need to strictly observe the polarity.

If the above methods of verification did not help, then contact a specialized service center, where the ignition coil is tested using a special stand.
